Art of Videogames Exhibit Opens at Smithsonian

The Art of Videogams exhibition kicks off with a bang this weekend at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art in Washington, DC. In addition to the exhibit itself the Smithsonian will be hosting a weekend of panels, musical performances, and film screenings titled, what else, GameFest!.
Quote:
The Art of Video Games exhibition will explore the 40‐year evolution of video games as an artistic medium, with a focus on striking visual effects, the creative use of new technologies, and the most influential artists and designers. A website (www.artofvideogames.org) offered participants a chance to vote for 80 games from a pool of 240 proposed choices in various categories, divided by era, game type and platform. Voting took place between February 14, 2011 and April 17, 2011.

The exhibition will be on display at the Smithsonian American Art Museum from March 16, 2012 through September 30, 2012 (www.americanart.si.edu/taovg)
Beginning in October, the exhibit will embark on a ten city US tour, the confirmed locations of which can be found here.

It's so lame that they have Nolan Bushnell for today. I'm not taking off work to hear him talk, but dammit it sure would make a nice Saturday or Sunday experience. I may end up going tomorrow. We shall see.

I didn't see the tour list before. The only places it hits in the U.S. are Ohio and Michigan. That's too bad.

I'm so pissed that I'm just now finding out Kojima is speaking at this thing. When I first looked at the schedule, he wasn't on it. This is what I get for using Gmail's Bulk Mail Filter and never going through my bulk folder to verify I don't need anything in it. I could have had early access registration! I'm still tempted to go early and hope the standby line actually gets used.

A coworker reminded me that tomorrow is St Patty's Day. Going into DC is going to suuuuuuuuck. If I tried to sneak in under a large Guinness box, Kojima couldn't possibly be mad at me for trying, right? I mean, he's pretty much told me THIS IS HOW YOU GET IN PLACES UNNOTICED!
