SSX Gameplay Footage

SSX is a cruel teasing valentine. EA released some new gameplay footage of the various regions featured in SSX which is due for release in 14 short days. The gameplay looks exactly how you expect an SSX title to look, but it's the subtle eye-candy that sets it apart from its predecessors. A notable addition is the helicopter pilot sort of acts as an announcer as he flies down the mountain with you commenting on your performance.

The videos feature some of the latest and favorite legacy gameplay mechanics:

Africa exhibits the ridiculously extra long rails characters practically break-dance on as well as snowboarding by flashlight in dark caverns.

The Alps video focuses on big air and a helicopter stomp midway through the footage.

The Himalays video shows off more big air and finishes with actual wing-suit footage near the end.

Damn it, I want this game. SSX was the game that justified my launch day PS2 purchase, but we haven't had a good game in the series since SSX3. I'm definitely going to have to find a way to get this in the next couple of months.

Fans of this game series should watch the Giant Bomb 'Quick Look' - it's an hour-long video that covers a ton of the features, including multiplayer, survival mode, and customizations.

SSX was one of the greatest series of games last generation. Nice to see it coming back.

Wow it looks great. SSX was always one of those games that made me look badass despite me being not the best at the game.

Between this and Twisted Metal, I'm in nostalgia game overload. Two of my all-time favorite franchises coming back within two weeks of each other? I'm not a religious man, but this makes me think that somewhere, someone loves me.

Holy carp! Thanks for posting that. As a long time fan of SSX, the teaser trailers weren't quite doing it for me but the tricky courses in that video just kicked my SSX nostalgia into overdrive.

These trailers firmly put me in the YES PLEASE camp. I was lacking a bit of grinding action before. Sold! The soundtrack appears to rock as well.

They've apparently done away with whatever 'balance' mechanic was involved with grinding before, as the devs realized it wasn't much fun. Now, when you grind, you stick so you can concentrate on tricks.

Oh ok, can't remember if I had any trouble with it. It shouldn't become too easy though, Tokyo Megaplex was fun because you couldn't pull it off without skill.

I would rather have it as an option. If it's just a buttonmashing fest I will be dissapointed.

That is nice. Used to be a pain for me. Should make it easier to traverse tracks.

You're evil, Ani... SSX is easily the game I'm looking forward to the most this year... yes, even more than ME3.

I just wish they had stuck with the original Feb. 14th date for it, so we could play it tomorrow. ARG!

SSX3 is easily the pinnacle of the series (groan). The only thing I liked about On Tour was that they had skis but it broke more than it fixed. Blur has astounding music but the wii controls were a pain in the arse to try to use.

I want more man vs. mountain stuff and this looks like it has it in spades. Woo!

Is DJ Atomica back in this game? (I think that's his name...)

I liked his prattling on...

I feel like I'm one of the few people that never got into the series. It's definitely fun and I see the appeal, but I've only made it a few hours total into any of them before getting bored. Looks wild through and good to see the series coming back.

I really liked the first two, but SSX3 hit the sweet spot for me because it let me just carve down the mountains and pick my events instead of being mostly about racing. Plus it had avalanches.

Tricky was the best, IMO. I'm seriously psyched about this game. Can't wait!
