Square Announces Sleeping Dogs, Formerly Know As True Crime Hong Kong

This sounds like a step in the right direction for what was once the "True Crime" franchise. If Square/Enix can give us a GTA style game set in Hong Kong, I'm all over it.

Correct. The gameplay I've seen was mostly car and run/gun stuff, but had everything I wanted. A slow-motion button that allows you to shoot freely from the car/motorcycle is definitely something that more games can use. And the freedom of movement with the hostage/human-shield is awesome. The other True Crimes had great arcadey car tricks you could pull/unlock.

This trailer shows us that Square is putting a lot into this engine they bought. They could have outsourced the hell out of it and released something that was more of a cult hit like Saboteur, but they're going big here. I really like that.

I always felt that the True Crime name was working against the game before, as that was sort of.. not exactly a loved franchise.

Eidios makes another smart move in possibly creating a great open world franchise, I just hope they put a different emphasis on it than the other games out there, as Saints Row is crazy.. Just Cause is HUGE, GTA is GTA, and uh wow.. those are the only really relevant games in the genre left standing.

Well going by that video, the combat seems at least similar to the recent Batman games.

I get why we would exclude Batman and AC. They're more adventure games in an open world. But how about Red Dead, Mercs and LA Noire.

Yeah, from what I saw of it it really looked pretty good already. The only real bad thing about it was the branding imo. 2 Really sucky games before it in the same name didn't help and it just felt "me too, I'm gangster too!" While the Hong Kong vibe, the fistfights and everything else looked quite allright.

From what I've read from UFG this was all done outside of the game. Any CGI is just normal movie special effects.

As an aside, GMG is pretty crazy with their pre-release pricing sometimes. I've gotten a handful of games for much less than their full price before they've even been released.
