Considering Enders Game is basically a geek empowerment book, I dont see this film having mass appeal. Among geeks, Enders struck me as horrifically overrated, so I suppose Im not all that excited by this.

Wow, they are finally going through with it. People have been trying to make this movie since the book came out so it's nice to see it finally happening and with what looks like a great, true to the book cast.

My wife read Ender's Game just a year or two ago and loved it so much she read it twice in a week. I think you're off thinking this is a geek niche.

Ender's Game is one of my favorite books. The cast is looking good so far. Although does it really matter who plays Stilson?
I'm optimistic, but like always it will depend on how well they adapt the screenplay. I can see certain aspect, like the fantasy game, being completely left out, which would be a shame. |

Geek isnt really the right niche, the bullied or socially awkward is probably more accurate. Of course, not making a judgement of your wife.

So what you're saying is that only people who are just like the main character of a story can enjoy that story? That's about the most ridiculous thing I've heard this week. While some people may be able to appreciate a story a bit more if they can relate to certain aspects of it, a good, well written story can be enjoyed by anyone and everyone. Geek or otherwise.

I just really don't think Ender's game is very niche at all.

It has all sorts of aspects other than the fact it's about a bullied kid. I happen to love it in large part because I think it is one of the best thought-out and actually possible sci-fi "universes" that is out there. Very few parts of it are too outlandish to believe (in my opinion), so it's very engaging to me. It also has the whole side of the story where the brother and sister become political pundits and demagogues. Lots of social/political commentary there. Anyway, I think it will be plenty popular if it's good. |

Interesting cast...some bigger names mixed in with, at least to me, little known ones. Will be interesting to see how they do some of the imagery from the book. Might have to reread the book eventually.

Card lives here in Greensboro and writes a column for the weekly free newspaper. Some of my favorite quotes include calling global warming a "sad fantasy" and the phrase "On the plus side, it has Jim Belushi."

It is the only audio book I have listened to and I did not enjoy it very much. There were some novel concepts, but most of them have been co-opted by later movies and books and kids are not trained on adventure games anymore. It's FPS's now.
