Next Tony Hawk Game May *GASP* Actually Be Good!

Sometimes age does matter. If you're under a certain age then the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series is something of a fossil; a title your spinster aunt bought for you as a kid because it was cheap and looked suitable XTreme. But for us old fogies, it can still evoke some glowing memories. You see the first 3 Tony Hawk games weren't just good. They were great. Innovative and entertaining. They quickly went downhill, but that doesn't take away from the greatness of the first few. After letting the franchise rest after the last few miserable outings, Activision and developer Robomoto have returned with Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD, a mash up of the best levels from the first two Tony Hawk games.

That level pictured above was the one put on a Playstation Magazine demo disc, and my friends and I played it to death, so it's a welcome inclusion. No mention was made of multiplayer, but it would seem to be a no-brainer. Look for Tony Hawk HD this summer for $15 on XBLA and PSN.

I am going to break my anti Activision policies for this game.

THPS2 is one of the best games ever made. It doesn't have a flaw.

Except that the first one was better!

Eh. 4 and Underground were my favorites. Not to say 1-3 weren't fantastic, but I really thought the series came into it's own after those. And then went downhill even faster after Underground.

Gotta get all the gaps!

Tony Hawk 2 is one of the few games that I absolutely maxed out in every way. I would play through the whole game a couple times a night, trying to unlock all the secret characters and levels and bonuses. I had hundreds of hours in that game.

I never really got around to playing any of the later ones. There were a couple that I tried but they never grabbed me for some reason. I'll definitely check this out though.

Awesome! My combined hours put into THPS 1 & 2 is staggering. I'll be looking forward to picking this up.

I still find 3 to be the peak of the THPS series, but 1 and 2 were still better than everything that came out after 3.

I'll give them props for realizing what it is that made the games good, but I also think it's kind of funny that they opted to rehash the stuff people like in lieu of trying to make something new. Using the gameplay style and systems of the originals is a good move, but reusing the maps themselves just seems like a cop out.

For $15 bucks though, I'm still not complaining. If it was full retail it would be a different story.

Wow, I kinda liked that. It's funny because I really wanna grab SSX too this generation.

Wow, I guess this just goes to show what happens when you saturate the market, take a dive, leave the ip alone, then come back to hit in a couple years.

I really enjoyed THPS2 on the Dreamcast. I'll have to fire it up again sometime.

With regards to your opinion and the quality gap of these two titles, your avatar is oddly fitting.

Me no gusta my avatar, actually :/. Anyways, I was being a bit facetious, as I couldn't honestly tell if the second was a better game simply because I didn't spend much time with it. I played a lot of the Dreamcast demo of 2 and didn't care for how much easier it was to bail compared to the original. So yes, I enjoyed the first more, but only because I sucked at 2.

My response was only in jest. I love both of those games, I just spent an exponentially greater amount of time in THPS2.
