WB Teases Batman Arkham World

Warner Bros Interactive took the occasion of the VGAs to, once again, tease the next Batman game. While "accepting" the "award" for "best character", a CG Joker flashed this teaser:

It makes perfect sense. Arkham Asylum begat Arkham City, which appears to have spawned Arkham World. A whole world to play in means upping the ante once again. Which I fully endorse. It could also mean the inclusion of The Batmen of Many Nations, which could be the best thing ever.

I don't fully endorse it myself.

I thought Batman AC lost *something* in opening the world so much. It made the game lack a sense of flow.

Jumping to 'Arkham World' (whatever the heck that means) seems like another large jump that might detract more. I'd have been happy with perhaps more of Gotham to play with, even if they segmented the city somewhat.

They could have thrown in other heros as well or something.

AC was a great game, I just prefered AS.

I'm wondering if it's just a misdirect, considering who's holding it...

Yeah, I saw this as nothing more than a joke. I'm sure there will be more Batman games considering the phenomenal success of the first two, but I'm willing to bet that the next one won't be named "Arkham World".

I'm hoping the next one is just an open world Gotham game, without a fucking crisis going on.

I'd love to see an open world JLA game from them... Or at least one with a few more playable characters in the game with branching story lines which change based on who you choose to play in what order. Taking into account how the different characters would deal with a specific conflict/villain altering how things play out in the rest of the game world.

So far I'm loving Arkham City, I think they found a great balance between the open world exploration & secondary missions and the tighter missions of the primary story quests. The graphics are, of course, jaw droppingly beautiful. I haven't finished the game yet but the only real flaw in the game I'm seeing at this point is a similar one to AA, lack of enemy variety. Mainly with the overall character models themselves and less with clothing and texture variety.

I do think Narradisall is right to a point but I don't think it's possible to keep the tight pacing and flow of the original while still also giving the player the freedom of an explorable open world. Thankfully it hasn't, for me, detracted from the game much at all but I can see how people would prefer the first over the second.

Agreed. The other smaller issues happening from over villians, the Hush murders, etc were more intriguing.

I'd love them to just do a Gotham city scenario, with lots of villians planning multiple plots each of which you have to stop.

Yep. It's a joke. Even on the show last night when we were watching I said this would run rampant on the internet with people calling it the next game. It's not.

If they do go ahead with it, and maybe even the Batmen of All Nations, then it's not cool unless we get Knight and Squire.

I'd still like to play a DC game where you create your own hero rather than using an existing one. I just find the idea of interacting with all these great characters on my own terms immensely appealing. Imagine such a game structured like Dragon Age: Origins, with a bunch of different possible origin stories for your character.

The lack of single-player superhero games with custom characters has always surprised me, especially considering how they're one of the best and most popular features of superhero MMOs.

That would probably be great for most people. I would just make Batman, though. So I dig just having sweet Batman games.

I think the next game will be a Roller Coaster Tycoon type of game. The Joker will be selling corn dogs and the Riddler is in charge of cotton candy. Batman is in charge of safety inspections and your job is to make sure each bolt is tightened just so before calamity ensues.

I'd like any super hero game where you get to create your own hero, it doesn't need any kind of licensed universe.

True, but the licensing does add an extra level of *SQUEE*. Being able to meet Batman and join the JLA is always going to be cooler than meeting Grimdark and joining the Organisation of Generic Heroes.

Ah, yeah. I latched onto "superhero" and "non-licensed."
