I'm impressed by the number of shows/movies on the list that I've seen and agree with and I'm also shocked by the number that I've never even heard of, let alone seen.

And FLCL as #1? Seriously? Maybe I'm one of the few who on whom the kool-aid didn't work. I mean, I liked it and all but it would have been a lot closer to the bottom of this list than right at the top.

And no Last Exile? Sniff.

Agree on Last Exile, it should have made top 20 in my opinion. But of course there are a good many things I don't agree with on that list, I'm not a fan of all the moe shit. Still, it's all opinions anyway and it just gives me incentive to try out some series I would have missed.

I'm not much of a mecha fan, but noticed that two series I haven't seen - Macross Frontier and Code Geass - made the list while who that I have seen - Full Metal Panic! and Gundam 00 - didn't make it.

Also, no Kino's Journey (Kino no Tabi) or Samurai Shamploo. And of course there are some series that I like, but I can understand them not quite making Top 50 (Aria, Read or Die / R.O.D the TV).

But glad to see Genshiken and Toradora actually made the list, and that Azumanga Daioh came in as high as it did.

I thought they'd missed Genshiken and Death Note, but I just missed them on my initial perusal.

I agree that Samurai Champloo and RoD (at least the OAV) should have been on there too.

I know I've been out of the loop for the past 4-5 years so it will be nice to have a list to work from in my future studies for the appreciation of modern visual culture.

If you missed the FLCL box set that was released a couple years back (this one), don't worry, Funimation has picked up the series and will be releasing it on Blu-Ray and DVD.

Rather than releasing each OVA separately, all six be bundled together in a single set for DVD and Blu-ray, and should be hitting the shelves sometime towards the end of the year--no official release date has been set.

Looking back at my e-mail, I got the box set for $42 in 07. The last completed eBay auction, for a new copy, was like $270.

That was one series I had been waiting for them to release in a box set, as it was previously sold individually on 3 discs, 2 episodes each, usually $30 per disc. So $90 for 6 episodes.

I saw that mentioned in the thread I linked to, too. I haven't gotten any anime on blu-ray yet. I assume an "upscale" means quality is equivalent to playing a normal DVD on a good upscaling player (rather than a native HD picture)?

Yeah, that was one thing that bothered me. Having just two episodes, and especially since anime was more expensive back then. Especially with things like the original DBZ Dragon Boxes, and now even those are being re-released again.

Someone should pick up Rurouni Kenshin! (at least the first two seasons...)

So, after seeing it top Japanator’s list, curiosity got the better of me and I tracked down the first episode of FLCL - and I still have no idea what I watched.

Does it actually start to make sense at some point, or is it always that...random?

It's a show that really needs more than one viewing. Plus it's only 6 episodes, so it doesn't take long to rewatch.
