Xbox controllers take forever to connect

I noticed starting a few weeks ago that my controllers take a long time to connect to the console and won't turn the console on until after they blink all four ring lights for a few minutes. On Thanksgiving we had some family over and Rock Band was way more of a pain to get working than it ever had been before. I did some googling and found some pages and forum posts made by people who seemed to be having the same problem, but there weren't any solutions or explanations and xbox support has been no help so far.

Has anyone else seen or had this problem?

I believe that it could be caused by radio interference. It takes longer for my xbox controllers to connect now in my apartment then when I lived with my brother in his house.

That makes sense, but not in the way I'd hoped. :-) I must have some new wifi neighbors or something.

Thanks for your insight.

Is your TV on the correct input when you turn on your XBOX? For some reason, if I turn it on while watching cable, sometimes the xbox will not power up past the X-Button logo until I put it on the xbox input.

I actually had this happen to me too but once I got a new controller the problem seem to evaporate.

I've had that problem, but in this case even if I turn the xbox on with an IR remote or the button on the front it takes a long time for the controller to connect. I learned last night that if I have the controller connected via Play and Charge then it connects right away.

I tried this with other controllers and am pretty sure it's something to do with the xbox or the radio connection in general.

You could try a re-sync with the little sync buttons on controller and console, although I don't know why it would matter... but I suppose it could wipe out the old connection info and start fresh.

Every once in a while I get this. I plug in the controller to the play and charge kit before turning he 360 on and that seems to get rid of it for a while.

Never noticed a difference in play-time response thank goodness. =)

Thanks, guys.

I tried using the sync buttons a few times, and it doesn't seem to make much difference. Once the "probation period" is over it works, but until then no dice.

The play and charge cable definitely has some effects on this situation, but I've yet to see it make the problem go away as Khrymsyn has. And, thankfully, once things get going the controller seems to work perfectly.

This is mostly a curious annoyance.
