Well yeah, given that Sony doesn't wholly own most of their franchises, and hasn't been able to successfully create a mascot character, you're right. You're conflating Nintendo HAVING FRANCHISES with mediocrity. They do a lot of innovation...just....not so much lately.

As a person who didn't own a PS2, I'm really appreciating all these collections. I'll probably pick this up at some point.

There are always new audiences, and it is a good thing these games are available... but not at the loss of backwards compatibility. These are recent games, and can be had for only a few bucks in the used section of any local game store.

Oh yeah, I'd much rather have BC, but it's better than nothin, y'know?

I didn't say that Nintendo's games are mediocre. I said that it was laughable to say that Sony cashes in on their franchises more than Nintendo does. That's obviously not true.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE POOR DEVELOPERS? THEY WON'T RECEIVE MONEY IF YOU WERE TO BUY USED!

Obviously, we should be thankful BC was removed.

Shady business decisions, blatant double-dipping, and pulled features will always suck. Getting to re-buy the previous generation's games does not make up for it.

I do indeed have a BC PS3. It's the Metal Gear one (60G). And the trouble is, I know I'm going to hold onto the PS2 ones as well since they're worth nothing in trade and I'm a hoarder. But yeah.

Sony really hasn't done a lot of these HD remakes. A lot are from other publishers. Heck we even got a HD version of PSP games which I really.

How is this different from buying Star Wars yet again on Blu-Ray? When it's movies it's all allright, when it's games it's a cash in.

Sure not having BC sucks. But I would stilll buy some of them just to have some games in better quality even if I had. Ico looks the shit.

You'd be surprised how much those old NON-GREATEST HITS games are worth. Even on goozex there's a premium for them.

Funny you bring up Star Wars... probably one of the biggest cash-ins of all times.

Have fun buying your films again and again.

I really don't mind updating my VHS to Blu-ray.

I rarely buy any movies. But if there wasn't a demand for them they would stop doing it. The word cash-in is a weird one anyway. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything.

Like ms does with halo. And Sony does with
Gow. I don't see a problem if people want to spend their money on shit they like.

Aren't "cash-ins" the goal of any company? You know...that is to say, making money?

Yeah, seems to be something that gaming shouldn't be able to do. That's what a lot of the forums say anyway, give us shit for free, do exactly as we say, or there will hell to pay. Gamers scorned so to speak.

Cash ins imo are games that get slapped together with little love on a strict deadline with a big ass gimmick or name on it people get suckered into buying. Like the game-movie adaptions of old. And yes some Star wars games fall into that category, does that make remastering the originals the same practice?

And even then, if people stopped buying shit, they wouldn't make shit.

True, but I hardly see the issue with re-releases, especially if they get a nice HD makeover, come in a several-game collection, and are reasonably priced. Quality films and books get re-released all the time, often due to demand and said works' importance to the medium as a whole. Why should gaming be any different? For fans of the games, this is a convenient collection with much needed graphical improvements. For newer gamers, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience a last-gen classic. And for those who already played and aren't interested, then spend your hard earned cash on a new title. Simple.

Shit, piss on the haters, I've been begging for a HD collection of Ico/Shadow of the Colossus and the Metal Gear Solid Series, and I got both. Please and thanks, says I.

Never played the series back on the PS2. I saw much more appeal in the Rachet and Clank games. I reckon this would be good to pick up.

They were quite good. Some people took issue with the shift made in Jak 2, and cried because it was too hard, but they're all good. Jak 3 was easily the best action platformer on any console last gen.

Loved Jak 3, amazing action-platformer that got everything right that Jak 2 messed up. Jak 1 is old school Mario 64esque platforming, but it's good. Jak 2 is the weakest in the series, but it's hardly bad and it is actually pretty enjoyable.
