Jak & Daxter Collection Confirmed For PS3

After a rather lengthy series of odd marketing missteps leading to leaks via retail websites and content rating boards, Sony has finally confirmed that the Jak & Daxter trilogy will be getting a PS3 release. Presumably it will get something of an HD make-over, but details on the compilation are currently unavailable. What we do know is that SCEA officials are currently referring to it as the Jak & Daxter Collection; this may not be the finalized title.

The latest issue which prompted this admission came when the German ratings board (Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle) rated the game. It had also been rated by a Korean board last month, and was leaked via a South African game retailer's website.

This was my favorite series of the last generation, 2 and 3 were great. I'd love to get a current gen Jak game that more fully delivers on the "open world" theme of 3.

will buy. love the series but they should include the 4 games. 1, 2, 3, Lost Frontier.

Jak X racing was no Crash Team Racing.

i fucking love these HD collections. Playing PS2 games on my PS3 looks like shit and I know it's just a way for Sony to cash in on old titles, but fuck, the HD upscale looks great! I bought the MGS Collection yesterday and I can't wait for the Devil May Cry and Silent Hill collections. This I will be buying too.

I hear ya, Duke. I'm loving these HD collections and they tend to be reasonably priced as well. It also takes the sting from not having a BC PS3 away, too.

Every time they announce one of these HD collections it makes me wish I had a PS3.

When they realized they could make even more money off HD re-releases they ditched the BC. It all makes sense now. Without BC, this is the only other option. And its working.... people are paying for them.

Yea For suckers?

Do you have a backwards compat PS3? The first ones were really good at playing PS2 games. Wireless controllers, virtual memory cards, and upscaling. Sure, it isn't the same as a nice HD remake, but it works with the games you already have... And would have worked for years.

Shady business decisions, blatant double-dipping, and pulled features will always suck. Getting to re-buy the previous generation's games does not make up for it.

I like having the collections like these. If they were just straight rips of the PS2 games that would be pretty shitty, but they're not. The graphics are always redone significantly, they're remade to fit a widescreen format, and they look far better than they would if you were just putting the PS2 disc in. At least with the collections I have, the Sly, MGS, God of War, and Prince of Persia sets.

You can spend a lot of time re-playing the previous generation.

It makes Nintendo's franchise cash-ins look tame.

Of course you can, and many of them are worth playing again, or for the first time if they were missed. At least these typically see significant enhancements, at least in terms of visuals. Aren't you the one who was defending the SNES rom dump of the Super Mario All Stars on the Wii last year for $50?

Oh please. Sony will never come anywhere near Nintendo when it comes to cashing in on franchises. Animal Crossing alone has been released at least 4 times - basically the same game each time with only minor tweaks! Then of course there's the plethora of Mario X titles. To say that Sony makes Nintendo's cash-ins look tame is hyperbole of the highest order.
