Fuck. I have an ATI card. Sigh. Ah well, they sorted the ATI issues in Brink, presumably they'll be fixed for rage too. Hopefully by the time my Steam unlocks in Europe.

That Joystiq review sounded pretty dissappointing. Especially that's it's actually not that big and open surprises me, that and linear/simple, make me glad I didn't go for it.

I watched the Giant Bomb quick look and read some other reviews. Seems the general consensus is that it is amazing pretty FPS but dont expect anything more in terms of story, mission structure, or other gameplay mechanics.

I'll play it eventually, but I'm canceling my preorder. I'll wait for a Steam sale.

Besides, I have Dark Souls to play, which is getting all around stellar reviews, and The Binding of Isaac, which is also great. A very pretty but standard fair FPS wont be missed.

I was never under embargo to begin with. I'd previously mentioned my issues in other articles that popped up about the game since then.

The whole thing is...I played it at E3. This is where they pull you aside and throw you in the middle of something without any context and very little instruction. This is how I played Rage.

I never faulted it for that but while I played I couldn't help but feel underwhelmed by it all. Something about it all just felt...mediocre.

Can't really put my finger on it. Same thing happened at PAX when I played Firefall, unfortunately.

Reviews are also good...some of you are simply acknowledging the few bad ones.

It's an 80% at Gamerankings....is that bad?

What I can distill from the reviews is that it's a solid FPS, super pretty when textures aren't popping in (Carmack is on record about how you can break the engine), but feels empty and disconnected due to light story and tacked-on vehicle portions.

Essentially, it's an id game. I wasn't expecting anything more.

It'll be a fun rental FPS and I'll play through it and move on. No problem with that - every game doesn't have to be a 7-course meal. Sometimes, fast food is what I want.

ya. I bought the steam version last nights with hopes to play with Grifter on some co-op here and there if he wanted but...then the PC stuff started rolling out. So for now its 360 for me. Which hands down is amazing so that at least is one positive.

So far, AI is where it is at here, and ya it is freakishly beautiful. Which is also cool. So far game wise, its an Id game with some insane firefights. I went into this knowing enough about it to know what to expect and haven't been disappointed yet.

I'm not getting the complaints. It performs exceptionally well on my PC and while I do notice the texture lag, it's quite minimal. Certainly shadowed by the fact that I'm playing here:

It's now up to 82% at GameRankings...I think the initial backlash was the vocal minority...sounds like a solid game

Am I right in reading no dynamic lighting? You'd think a modern engine would include that, no? Or is it just the global lighting that's baked into the textures?

Global that is baked. A trade off to get it to 60fps that Carmack chose after testing the two. He felt that the tradeoff was minimal and, from people playing the PC version, that works, most seem to think the tradeoff is not noticable.

I have the 360 version and all I can say is, for the 360 its the best looking game on it.

Nvidia GTX460. Running maxed at a (so far) solid 60FPS.

Excellent! I had some issues last night but was too tired to check what was up. Tonight I will be checking it out on PC. From those who have it running without errors, Nvidia owners mostly, they report it is smooth as hell.
