Square Enix Grabs True Crime Hong Kong
Square Enix has surprised...well pretty much everyone, by picking up the rights to True Crime Hong Kong after development on the open world title was canceled by Activision earlier this year.
Vancouver-based developer United Front Games (ModNation Racers) had been working on the game for quite some time when Activison swung the axe. At the time Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said "The finished product was not going to be at the top of that genre." Square Enix apparently thought differently. Quote:

I wonder if they just need another product on the shelf. If I remember correctly, they drastically slashed their revenue expectations for the next fiscal cycle.

That IS a surprise. My guess is they got it really cheap, but they must see something worth salvaging in there.

I hope this sells like gangbusters. Just because Activision gave up on it. God I hate that company with an unholy passion. I sacrifice a chicken each night in the hopes CoD will die soon but Cernunnos must be a CoD fan.
I need another open world game badly. I hope this turns out fun.

I remember playing and liking the first True Crime game...it'll be interesting to see what they do with this.

I had no clue so many people liked this series. The first game had a promising combat system dragged down by a shitty morality system with an unlikeable fuckhead as the main character and an absolutely batshit insane story while the second game was nearly as glitchy as Driv3r yet was far more cut down than the first in terms of the game world.

Yeah, there was a lot of bold claims about this game, I'm glad we'll at least get to see it come to market now.
