Every chapter of the game introduces a new character you play who is betrayed and killed at the end of that chapter.... just when you start to get to like them.

From a discussion in the Season 2 thread concerning Stannis, placed here as speculation since it concerns a future event in the show that has not aired yet, thus making it invalid to post in the other thread:

I thought it was pretty implicit in the books that the shadow magic which opened up Storm's End was a result of them banging

The Melisandre-Stannis boning scene wasn't shown in the book, but when Davos smuggles her under the walls of Storm's End she's very, very pregnant and says something (I forget exactly what) that implies that Stannis was the father of the shadow demons.

It is, but it's apparently transferred to Melisandre via intercourse

I always assumed Melisandre was speaking metaphorically about that stuff. It never really crossed my mind that Stannis might have literally fathered that thing. Looking back it makes sense though.

I completely missed the implications in the book that Stannis provided the seed for the child, but I'd assumed them showing it in the series was to make it clear, rather than imply, much like they did with Renly and Loras.

They heavily imply how Stannis has shamed his wife, etc. Probably nobody says it out loud because he would have them killed. Because he's so good.

Thing is, they also imply lots of things in the book that aren't true too. Although as I said I completely missed the Stannis implications.
The TV series seems to be making a more direct approach, which while it isn't quite in the theme of the workings of the book, I can understand from some perspectives. Although I don't think they need to be AS blunt as they are with the holw Stannis/Mellesandre and Renly/Loras as they were, it could have been achieved with dialogue but a quick romp seems to do the job just as well.

As for the boning in the book, it was very shady in the implication. I was never able to decide if it really happened or if other characters just assumed that it did.

Watching the series, there was something I didn't remember. Did one of Danerys' bloodriders really get killed at that point? Maybe I am just forgetting it, because there hasn't been any outcry about it around here, but I sure as hell don't recall that.

Kielaran, I thought the EXACT same thing, but it's been a while since I read the books and I'm a forgetful sort, so I didn't mention it.
I could have sworn she had all of them with her for longer than that. On checking, yes, in the book they all return. Aggo, Jhogo and Rakharo are commanded by Daenerys to use her khalasar to subdue the hinterlands of Meereen and end the slavery there They are still with her up to Mereen.
