Even I know Chrono Trigger. And I'm "hates JRPGs" guy. It's like my thing.

Seriously. I am seriously. I have no idea what Chrono Trigger is other than it is mentioned by some of you yahoos occasionally.

I played Dragon Warrior. That's a jRPG right?

This week: Call of Juarez: The Cartel

I never did get around to finishing the first Call of Juarez. I got to some awkward sneaky type mission and got bored.

There is no middle finger big enough!

It has been awhile since I laughed so much and so hard watching a Zero Punctuation. Well done. It sounds like yet another shooter done so poorly, it lowers the whole genre.

It's a jrpg in the same sense that doom is a shooter.

So in the sense that, yes, it is a JRPG.

It's on the DS, and it holds up pretty well. I know it's blasphemy, but I never viewed it as the second coming as so many do, but it's a damn solid game. Especially considering the fact that it came out 15 years ago. Definitely worth picking up, even if only for the still fantastic soundtrack.

Heretic. Turn in your jRPGs.

I like my contrarian view, thank you very much! The best RPGs of the 16 bit generation were Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy V.

Really? Not even one joke about how immensely irritating it is to have some disembodied voice narrate every slightest action you take like he's fucking Randy Newman?

He did at least bring up how the cluttered level design and needlessly zoomed out isometric view makes it almost impossible to see what the fuck is going on if you're sitting more than 5 feet from the telly.

That's because most people liked it. You're just going to have to accept that you're the odd one out on this one.

So, it's one of the first jrpgs?

I've never played it either. Jrpg's are much like Crpg's. They age like milk. If anyone puts a quantifier before it, I tend to skip. "It's held up pretty well" is not a resounding endorsement when most Jrpg's from a decade+ are more like Chinese Water Torture.

You should play it. It is good. I hadn't played it until the DS re-release and it's one of the few JRPGs I like.

And many JRPGs now are like Chinese Water Torture.

I don't really find this to be the case with jRPGs at all. The 90s were pretty much the golden age for the genre, it's been downhill ever since the FMV came along.

Early Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy are definitely a drag, but 16-bit era is the most full of stuff I'll actually play and enjoy.
