Post Wizards in Space! Arcana Universalis Released

Greetings, all my coggers and cogettes!

As some of you have no doubt heard through other, lesser social networks out there on the intertubes, today marks the release of my brand-spanking-new fantasy novella, Arcana Universalis: Terminus. But of course, it's not really launched until I've announced it here, and here I am.

BAM!

Now, you're probably wondering just what in heck this is exactly, so I offer you the super-condensed too-short-for-Twitter summary:
wizards in space

What do you mean you need to know more? Kids these days. Alright, here goes...

Quote:
Welcome to the world of Arcana Universalis, a strange universe filled with fabled creatures, vile demons, and starships driven by mystical energies. It’s a time of fantastic powers that defy belief and vicious bloodshed that spans the stars… most of which belong to the Imperium, an oppressive feudal society ruled by a millennium-old dictator.

Enter Caleb Gedley, a bright but neurotic apprentice fresh from the academy who has a beautiful fiancee and a lifetime of mind-numbing research waiting for him back home. The only obstacle left between Caleb and this cozy future is a six-month externship aboard the Imperial Dragonslayer Ashkalon, an ancient and powerful warship patrolling the lesser spiral arm.

It was supposed to be a routine tour, just a few months of hard labor in exchange for a land-grant and entrance into noble society, but things in Caleb’s life never work out like they’re supposed to. When the Ashkalon is sent to investigate the disappearance of a prospector ship, Caleb and his best friend, a young warrior named Bibbs, find themselves on the surface of a mysterious planet. That’s when everything begins to go terribly, horribly wrong…

Terminus is the first segment of the upcoming fantasy novel, Arcana Universalis: The Hanged Man’s Revelation, due out in late 2011. This novella-length release is the first of five planned episodes that will together form the final novel.
Interested? But of course you are! Terminus is available (both for sale and free of charge) from the following distributors:

Thanks for looking, and cheers!

PS - Despite any appearances to the contrary, this story is in English and not Latin... well, predominantly, at least.

Wizards you say. I dunno, maybe if they were in space. The idea reminds of the only part of Babylon 5 I liked. The technowizards.

Bought because I liked your previous book. Hopefully Amazon gives you some sort of cut.

If this book sucks...we will find where you live!

Congrats on publishing again! Grand sweeping introduction, very promising and feels much-improved from your first outing.

As soon as I get my Kindle in the mail (broke it for the second time, those things are fragile) I'll be sure to buy a copy. Your first book didn't interest me so much (no offense, I'm just burnt out on Sci-Fi unless it has some pretty philosophical shit going on) but there's no way I can ignore a description like "Wizards in space".

Congratulations! Keep it up!

I bought it, but I have to admit that I can't read it until after I finish the next GRRM book, which releases on Tuesday. But I really enjoyed Stars Rain Down, so this should be a fun read.

I might get over my hatred of reading long pdfs on my laptop for this! (I don't have an ereader yet.) But oftentimes the most important thing is getting them interested and you can't do much better than wizards in space!

(1) Stars Rain Down was pretty sweet.

(2) I may have read a preview copy of this, and may be able to confirm that it also is pretty sweet. Okay, technically I can maybe only confirm that the first half is pretty sweet but I'm totally gonna wrap it up soon, and then buy a copy.

So maybe you should consider buying a copy.

Aww, now I feel all mushy inside. Thanks for the support, fellas.

@Karak
Yeah, sorry about that. Feedbooks is a bit on the flaky side, and yesterday was quite a bit worse than usual. They're usually only down for a few minutes at a time, though, so try back again.

@Ghostbear
The only part of Bab5 you liked? Yeesh... I mean, it was sort of cheesy at times, but not entirely execrable, I thought. Anyway, there's certainly a similarity except theirs were technowizards in a high-tech milieu, and mine are more magicy wizards in a mystical milieu, complete with starships built like medieval castles and dragons (coming soon).

@Heretic Machine
Yep, there's a strong resemblance, although I like to think I took a similar premise and ran a different direction with it. Jury is still out on whether it's working or not.

@biosc1
Good thing I have absolutely, positively no doubt about the quality of my wares... and failing that, I've just moved to.... hmmm, where's a remote location... Jakarta. Lovely sweltering Jakarta, on the far side of the globe where the angry mobs can't get me.

@Ravenlock
And of course, the first half is where the most changes have been made since the beta copy. Doh!

Thanks again for the encouragement (and the purchases!), everyone. It really makes a difference in a job that's challenging as hell. I'm also overjoyed to hear whenever someone enjoyed Stars Rain Down. That book is about the same age as TF2 (four years?), and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't still self-conscious about it.

And no worries if you haven't dipped your toes into my stuff yet (hmmm... that sounds a bit off color now that I see it on-screen). I happen to be a picky reader, and I never take it personally when someone's not interested in what I'm offering. We read what grabs us and I think that's the way it should be.

Spectre, I tried watching Bab 5 about 8 times, cant get past the first 10 episodes before wanting to stab my own brain with a q-tip.

In any case, after I am done reading god Is Not Great by Hitchens I'll dive into this.

Bought. I still have yet to read my copy of Star Rain Down, but I loved your Vengar short story. I need to get back to reading again. Damned Internet.
