WeekEND gaming(6/24/11)- What are YOU playing?

It's make your own WeekEND thread kit:

1 cat pic

1 not so funny caption

1 weekend

Stir, mix and serve.

What are YOU playing?

I'm playing the Sims - Real life. That is, spending time with my girlfriend and taking her to meet my family. Tonight, we are going to watch The Script, who I confess I have never heard of before they announced a tour to SA. She got tickets a while ago, and gave one to me.

I usually like to sleep in my own bed on Sunday nights, for some peculiar reason, so that will also give me some time to catch up on games. Probably Marvel vs Capcom 3 on the new arcade sticks.

I have no idea. I know I will play some Warhammer online. But then there's so many other games I want to try again. I've reinstaled Oblivion and a ton of mods but not really put any time in yet, but I'd like to. The Tf2 updates make me want to play that again, same with the Summer special stuff in Killing Floor. Karak keeps on at me to reinstall Arma II, SWTOR has been updated a lot and I want to check that out. And I want some social life this weekend, outside of gamimg. WHAT TO DO?

Oh glorious day. I'm not working for the first time in 10 days! Huzzah!

And it's my son's 7th birthday today. He got a TRON light-cycle and a Recognizer carrying case for the little die-cast light-cycles and the DS version of Plants Vs. Zombies. We just got back from a gourmet meal of egg McMuffins at McDonalds, where the receipt machine went insane and spat out a huge pile of receipts all over the counter that almost buried the poor girl working the cash. You couldn't pay for entertainment like that!

We're heading out to see Cars 2 tonight after school and tomorrow is the big Adventurer Training Party at the local indoor rock-climbing gym. Good times.

As for me and my games, I shall play:

Shadows Of The Damned (360) - AKA THE GAME WITH THE STUPID LOUD MUSIC! according to my wife, I'm still in the early parts of the games. I was falling asleep early again yesterday (thanks, work!) but at least I've made it to Hell. I can't wait to actually dig into this game in earnest because the insane bosses and such that I've been hearing about sound awesome. The only problem is that my in-laws are staying here this weekend right underneath the room that I game in and I'm sure I'm going to get yelled at for playing this game at night... and I damn well can't play it during the day!

The Witcher
(PC) - If SotD is too loud and offensive for the guests, I'll probably just get back to work on this. I didn't save at all when I was in the Swamp so I'm just going to putter around in Vizima a little longer and wrap up a few more loose ends before I get Geralt's boots wet.

P3P (PSP) - Seriously. I'm going to try to play this over the weekend. I hope.

LoZ: OoT 3D LMNOP (3DS) - I haven't really puttered around with this over the week and when I went to play it early this morning, my battery was dead (I left it in sleep mode all week long...) but it's on the charger now and I will probably fiddle with it over the weekend too.

WoW (PC) - Just noticed that I've resubscribed for another 6 months. Time to get a few more Northrend quests finished so I can actually see what the new content in Cataclysm is. I am always an expansion pack behind when it comes to seeing content

OoT 3D for me, as well as getting the last few DoA: Dimensions costumes that are being distributed by spot pass. I'll probably play some League of Legends as well, maybe give Orianna another try instead of my main, Rumble. Tomorrow I'm going to take back the Gameboy Player I bought that didn't come with the disc, and then play some D&D.

Looks like it's finally going to be nice for the weekend, so between trying to get active outside, washing my car and grilling, I will be playing copious amounts of Team Fortress 2 and trying to get all the new items.

Other than that, I was thinking about going back to a jrpg from my Playstation era. A few years back I went back through Breath of Fire IV and really enjoyed it, especially the gene splicing aspect. I was thinking of going back and trying to finish Xenogears but that one is tediously long and odd, but also awesome.

Spend more time with my Nook, and I am swinging by a rental place tonight to see if they have any good games to rent. Shadows of the Damned would be damn nice.

Redbox has Infamous 2 but $2 a night for a game that will take me more than 3 days is a bit much for me.

This should be a pretty good weekend. I'm off today, I've already swung by the kids' doctor to grab some updated paperwork for their daycare and bought a new phone. I'm now part of the smart phone crowd, I grabbed an EVO 3D, that phone is fucking slick. I'll be picking the kids up early from day care to go see Cars 2, they should love that. I've also got a first date tonight, so that should be fun, hopefully that goes well.

As for gaming, I still haven't settled on anything to start up after beating inFAMOUS 2 earlier in the week. It's still between picking back up 3D Dot Game Heroes or Sly 2, or starting up Castlevania. Either way I know Tactics Ogre will get some playtime, I love that damn game. And probably something on my new phone, that should open up a ton of little time wasters.

I've started Ocarina of Time 3D, but barely played any of it for some reason. I'm still endlessly grinding in Dragon Quest IX trying to get some of the things that keep eluding me, and Friday is new quest day for a few more weeks. I've been goofing off with the challenge tower in Mortal Kombat, I may try to do a bit more of that. Maybe something else. I did get to the citadel a little while ago in Mass Effect, but I seem to be gaming ADD at the moment.

It's a very different kind of game, it's a very love it or hate it kind of thing, I personally love it. Where to begin..... Well, you know the save system that everyone hated from Dead Rising? Well, Dragon Quarter is where it came from. Well, it's based on that, it didn't really bother me in DQ. You basically have an unlimited number of "soft" saves, but those are erased once you load them up. You have a limited number of "hard" saves that cost items, but those are permanent and can be reloaded if you happen to die. The game also can't be beaten on your fist playthrough. Like what they later did in Dead Rising, you play for a certain period then you can restart the game with your items and levels, along with your D-Ratio (sort of a social standing you build up through your actions). For the entire game you have a counter that slowly builds towards 100%, if it ever reaches that it's game over. It counts very slowly as you progress through the game, but whenever you have Ryu use his dragon form it goes up quickly, so you really have to plan on when to use it. The battle system is also semi-real time, it's been a while but it reminded me of Parasite Eve if I'm remembering things correctly.

Like I said, the game is very different, I can't think of another JRPG (or any other game for that matter) that really compares to it. Well, aside from the Dead Rising examples above. It also has an absolutely fucking amazing soundtrack, done by both Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy Tactics, Ogre Battle, Valkyria Chronicles) and overseen and produced by Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger/Cross, Xenogears). Easily one of my favorite soundtracks.

So yeah, I love the game, but I fully realize it's not for everyone and there are people out there who hate it with a passion.

I have two BBQs to attend this weekend so I probably won't get a ton of gaming time in. Still, OoT 3D will definitely see some play time as well as FFXIV. I picked up The 7th Guest for my ipad and I've been playing around with that when I find a few minutes to spare. I also grabbed Sworcery when it was on sale but I haven't tried it out yet.

Ah, Dragon Quarter. Such an awesome game and the inspiration for the Dead Rising save system.

Oblivion (PC)- Modfest '11 is almost ready to go. Big thanks to the Oblivion thread. Great info and inspiring tales of (miss)adventures for those new to Oblivion or those failing to resist getting back into it. Going to start a stopwatch to see how long it takes me to mod this install to death.

Borderlands (360)- Continuing the mad-capped missions of the D-Team (<-the D stands for durp). It's a four man team consisting of my brother (the Marine Sargent) shooting ANYTHING that moves, one of my coworkers who will "Tony Hawk" vehicles off of just about everything in the environment, my other coworker who is new to the game and spends most of the time picking through the aftermath of the two above for loots, and myself the designated Mapquest, medic, support gunner, and guide. You can easily find, but no one would want to hire us... You are already in trouble, because here come the D-Team

What kind of litter box does this cat need?

So Purple, how did I do?

The Plan:

Green Lantern - In Three Dee!!!11!!11oneoneone This is to celebrate my recent re-employment.

Modded Oblivion - Started the Mage Guild quests. I think those are some of my favorites.

EVE Online - Working through the 14 day trial. I'm still going through the tutorials. Not sold on it yet.

Dragon Age: Origins PS3 - Time to get back to work towards that Platinum.

I'm going to giver Dungeon Siege III a try. I doubt I play through more than once since it is a GF rental so I am trying to choose which character I want to play. I will also play a little Socom 4, Magicka and whatever else pops up.

Busy weekend. Tonight is going to be wedding planning. Tomorrow is a birthday party for a one year old, followed by tailgating and a baseball game. Debauchery will follow after that. Not too much on Sunday means I may get to play something. If so it will be Magic, finishing up godfather 2, possibly Oblivion, or one of my many backlogged games.

I would like to buy trenched, but can't justify it between limited time and my backlog.
