Mortal Kombat Getting DLC Season Pass on XBL

This first DLC character for Mortal Komabt, Skarlet, will be released next week, but WBIE is taking a somewhat long view of the game's DLC.

Today they announced the Mortal Kombat Season Pass, which will give you all four DLC characters for the game for 1200 MSP/$15. Individually each of characters will sell for 400 MSP/$5, so the pass will save you $5 overall. Unfortunately the season pass is only available on Xbox Live, and not on PSN. Neither Sony nor WBIE have explained it's absence from PSN.

Each of the 4 new characters - Skarlet, Kenshi, Rain and an unannounced character - will have their own unique movesets, fatalities and endings. These aren't just palette swaps.

To allow you to play against these new fighters online Netherrealm will be releasing free compatibility packs on XBL & PSN. If you download these packs you'll also get a pair of free classic skins for each, starting with Cyrax and Sektor. The skins also come with the paid DLC, of course.

Skarlet will be available on June 21.

It's smart of them to throw in free stuff with the campatability, which not only rewards fans that don't want PDLC, but incentivizes getting those packs when normally people wouldn't bother. If I had to guess, the DLC Pass being on XBLA only may be the bone they kept saying they'd throw X360 owner's ways since the PS3 got Kratos (quick math shows $5 savings = one free character). I'll grab it for sure.

But she can only fight once every few weeks, but when she does, she's a real bitch to play against.

As to PSN not getting this, I wonder if its simply a matter of the backend not supporting this type of transaction.

Despite usually turning up my nose at paid DLC, I find myself tempted by even the retro skins pack for this game. I think there must be some sort of post hypnotic suggestion going on here.

There shouldn't be a problem with that kind of transaction though since the LA Noire DLC thing is similar.

I actually bought those skins, I figured at 5 bucks why the hell not? Considering people were probably paying more for some of those codes on ebay or something.

I'd heard the Reptile skin/fatality was going for over $60 after a week or so. Which seems kind of stupid, but whatever.

I was thinking of selling my Kitana code, since I don't really like to play as her. But then Netherrealm announced the costume packs and then it was pointless.

This game didn't grab me like I had hoped, after finishing the story mode I just got tired of it. Maybe I should try again soon, see what happens.

season pass is separate from the online pass? i bought mine used at a bbv closing sale and there was no manual.

any idea if the season pass includes online?

It's different, online pass is for online play, the season pass would be for the characters as they come out.

Correct. You could still get the season pass and 'compatability packs,' which have the free skins, if you just want the characters but not online play.
