Brothers in Arms: Furious Four Teaser

Once upon a time there was a game studio called Gearbox, and they made a serious WWII shooter called Brothers In Arms. Then the studio made Borderlands, a game with a pretty wicked sense of humor. Then they took over development of Duke Nukem Forever, a game pretty much defined by it's sense of humor (love it or hate it). So when Gearbox head Randy Pitchford came on stage at Ubisoft's keynote and began talking about Brothers In Arms, I assumed they were returning to the classic, serious strategy-shooter hybrid.

Then they showed the trailer for Brothers in Arms: Furious Four, and any bit of seriousness flew out the window. As someone mentioned earlier, it's like they made a game for the people who thought Inglorious Basterds was a bit too subtle and nuanced. I'm not saying that's a bad thing - games are often the most fun when they're the least realistic - just that it's an interesting way for the studio to take the Brothers in Arms franchise.

Look for Brothers in Arms: Furious Four sometime in 2012.

Well that was disappointing. I liked the franchise and this is a very strange direction for them to take.

Brothers in Arms always felt to me very... "homage" like... Respectful even. And pretty unique with the squad based combat and such.

This? This just looks like it takes the name and respectfulness, and pisses all over it. If they hadn't called it Brothers in Arms, I'd probably not feel the way I do, but this just gives me a bad taste.
It's like if they made Band of Brothers 2, and followed the Smoking Aces template for a movie. just wouldn't feel right.
