The Vita is a lousy name - maybe it plays better in Europe ... and for what you will be getting I think $250 is reasonable. But there are 2 reasons I probably am not getting it any time soon ... I suspect the battery life will suck and no UMD upgrade path.

with the state of handheld gaming moving slowly toward phones and other mobile devices, I can't fathom how this is going to compete in this shrinking market, but I have the same feeling about the DS family of systems.
My Thunderbolt has bite-sized fun games that play over and over again...and don't get me started on iOS products...haven't even scratched the surface and I've only had it for about a week. and both do far more than play games.

So, my question is "will it blend?"

Still no love for UMD owners? :\ There's gotta be a way to prove I own the many many discs that I do, so that PSN unlocks them for digital download. Hell, I'll mail them my games if they mail me a download code.

If anything, Nintendo has already conditioned me to expect low battery life. Combine that with the conditioning from the previous PSP, and I won't be that upset if they say it's 3 hours. The bar is low. Please impress me.

The bar is low. But it's a beefy machine. My hacked PSP stomps 3 hours. All these years, they got to have a better battery. Wasn't the PSP Go limited to like a 3 or 4 hour battery life?

This makes me wonder can you swap them? Again probably not since you couldn't with the Go. This could suck.

Battery technology improves, but it hasn't been improving by the leaps and bounds of, say, data storage or processing power. You can only store so much charge in a given amount of space.

so are they ditching a disc format?
if so, im going to pass.
i dunno what size the games will be, but looking at the games, they will certainly be bigger than what umds can hold.
i like being able to rent games for my system, or pick them up cheap used.

They'll be on high capacity cards and downloadable.

I think the Wii perfectly illustrated that given enough time, even the oddest sounding names grow on you. I assume this will be the case with the Vita. Helped along of course, by the inclusion of the Wii U.
