Tomb Raider Cinematic Trailer

Square Enix has released a cinematic trailer for the new, rebooted Tomb Raider, and it's pretty damn impressive considering it doesn't show a second of gameplay.

Look for the new Tomb Raider in 2012.

I caught this last night over at Joystiq...the end reveal of this trailer is very cool and is more interesting to me than any previous TR setting.

The trailer doesn't make much sense when you think about it a bit. Where did the guy who pulled her up go? How does she not get impaled by the metal sticking out of the ship when she grabs the arm after the jump? Why is one side of a ship split in half better than another?

I think it's a great premise for a TR game though because it suggest:
1) no human enemies
2) solitude!

I won't mind if they play up the survivalist aspect. For me the best parts of the TR games were when you were alone in a big abandoned place with and had to solve very involved environmental puzzles. I don't want a character driven story, I just want the story of whatever you have to do.

Am I the only one who finds her voice a bit...young?

I dunno, maybe I'm used to the voices used in the past, but this one sounds 15 or 16 at best.

Other than that? I'm sold. This looks like a solid reboot.

It's a reboot, right? She's young I guess.

Wake me up when the gameplay starts. I'm bored shitless of pretty pre rendered trailers. They do absolutely nothing to sell the game to me.

Wow she's pretty fucked up at the end, I'll bet she did even notice the recurve bow smashed into her back.

No way that voice was less than 20. I'd put the actor around 26 personally. You haven't spent enough time around teenagers lately.

I'm excited for this game. That's a first for Tomb Raider so I guess they're doing something right.

I loved the first two Tomb Raider games. I haven't played the Crystal Dynamic ones, but I'm looking forward to this.

I appreciate the offer, but I have Anniversary, Legend, and Underworld on Steam. I just haven't played them.

So you will buy another game that you will not play? You should try to play them, they are awesome games...says the TR shill.

That trailer was amazing. I have to wait until 2012? boo.

I actually bought a wired 360 controller for my PC so that I could play the Tomb Raider games, among others. It's sitting around here...somewhere.

He is unconscious, bumped his head when the ship ran aground. Your first quest will be to find him in the shipwreck.

The momentum of her jump swings her forward, under the deck he is on. When she swings back out their grip fails and she falls to the sea.

When a ship founders if most of the water is contained on one end of the ship it will often snap the keel, effectively breaking the ship into one or more pieces. We already know she was in the part of the ship where the leak was, which is why her side is going down quickly.

I think a survival tomb raider game could be quite interesting, long as she doesn't run into Jacob or Hurley.

I didn't like the narration, she sounds like a prat and doesn't jive with my perception of the character. But hey, they're trying new stuff and this wasn't gameplay so whatever, but I'm not impressed.

I really enjoyed them. I had only played the demo of the original TR, so Anniversary was a treat.

I liked Legend the best, Anniversary was great, Underworld was simply very good. All 3 were, for me, well worth the time spent in them.

I've heard good things about all three games. I've installed all of them, so I'll jump in soon.
