In Other News...May 21

- Stainless Games and Wizards of the Coast have announced that Magic The Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 will be released June 15 on XBLA, PSN and PC.

- Harmonix will be announcing (and likely showing) their new game at E3 next month. But it won't be Rock Band 4.

- Netherrealm Studios and publisher WBIE are temporarily waving the Kombat Pass for PSN Mortal Kombat players. The Kombat Pass - a code for which is included in all new copies of the game - is needed to play online, but the PSNageddon has prevented gamers from downloading it. WBIE will reinstate it once PSN is fully operational, but for now anyone with the game can play online.

- A patch designed to alleviate some of Brink's ongoing lag problems has been submitted to Microsoft and should go live next week.

- Square Enix is teasing a new Carmageddon title. They've opened up a teaser site which is counting down to June 1, just before the open of E3. (via CVG)

- Valve has opened up voting on the Team Fortress 2 Saxxy Awards, which look to recognize the best and most awesome in fan-made replay videos.

From what I'm hearing about the 360 version of Brink from friends I'm surprised it made it through cert in the first place. I imagine it was a political decision.

Carmageddon? A new one? I haven't played the first, but I've heard good things about it. This will be an interesting thing for me to keep up on.

Yay for MtG! Did they ever say if you can bring your unlocked cards and DLC decks over?

You can't use the old decks in the new game (which sucks IMO), but the devs say there should be some sort of bonus for those who have the original and the DLCs.

Please please please please let it be a new Frequency game. I highly doubt it will be that, but oh, what a glorious day it would be if they made another game like that.

I'd say the good money is on Dance Central 2, but we shall see.

I just hope the new MtG game isn't a buggy exploitable mess like the old one. Every patch had a new batch of game-breaking bugs. It would've been fascinating if it wasn't so frustrating.

Political?

And seems rather crap that you have to buy a whole new game for something which is built on buying add ons. What's the difference between the old one and this 2012 version?

Supposedly there are new mechanics in the 2012 version which would make battles against the old decks really unbalanced. Personally I think this sucks, but I'm not the developer. Make it like Pinball FX 1 & 2. If you own 1 you can play those tables in 2, so you have all of them in one game.

Could you imagine Frequency or Amplitude as an HD Kinect title?

I can, and it's nothing but rainbows of joy.

Wait, what? I think there was some confusion on what was quoted...

Anyway, I understand MtG 2012 has new modes, updated graphics, updated animations, a different tutorial style Magic teacher, more Planeswalkers to play as, more decks, etc, etc. There were already three expansions to the original, and I think I read that you can bring in your DLC, but I can't find that anywhere.

It seems like a significant upgrade, and as someone who bought all the expansions, I don't feel cheated at all. Since there will be more cards than in the original, you could almost consider it a $10-$15 expansion.

Edit: Nevermind, it won't be backwards compatible. They are looking to "reward the original Duels of the Planeswalkers players in the Duels 2012 game," but haven't said what that'll be yet.

Edit edit: I missed it before, but the promo cards for Duels 2012 are here.

I'm looking forward to the new MtG game, but I hope it's not as buggy and easily exploitable as the first. They really busted the AI in some of those patches. It was still a fun game, but the AI was far too predictable.

You owe to yourself to "find" an old copy of the game and try firing it up. It'll look like hell, but play a lap or 2 and just imagine what the big issue in the news was about this game

Such great games. I played the blood out of 1 & 2.

Either the tuner on my mind control hat is broken (it's set to, "hot women", dammit! I swear!!)... or we have proof that someone's high post count is due to not reading threads...

Either way, you owe me a coke.

If you have a PSP or DS, the Rock Band games are JUST like it.

I read the thread and stated my opinion.

Next time I will quote you and say "Ditto".

I honestly didn't mean to "jinx" you though.

I tried the demo of the PSP version and it was close, but the control scheme just felt wrong. I need two trigger buttons, damn it!
