The US Government has yet again shuttered several domain names this week. The Department of Justice and Homeland Security’s ICE office proudly announced that they had seized domains related to counterfeit goods and child pornography. What they failed to mention, however, is that one of the targeted domains belongs to a free DNS provider, and that 84,000 websites were wrongfully accused of links to child pornography crimes.

I don't get the quotey marks around 'by mistake'. This really does sound like a mistake, they didn't use the proper level of care with one of their targets, and it turns out that target supplied domain names to a lot of other people.

edit: still dumb of them, but I never assume malice where incompetence will suffice.

Yeah, I just copied the headline as was written in the article. Not sure exactly what the quotes are meant to represent.

I can only imagine the horror owners of small business would be to see their site had been replaced with an image suggesting they were distributing child pornography.

They're meant to invoke FUD so that conspiracy theorists will read the article.

Eh...it's not much of a conspiracy for the government to seize the domains of a bunch of smaller sites. Or at least, it would be a pretty useless conspiracy if that's the goal.

That said, TorrentFreak is fairly biased with their articles, so you are probably right.

Though I wouldn't rule out misuse of the quotes either.
