In Other News...February 15

- Geek favorite Felicia Day will star in the web series Dragon Age: Redemption, which she also wrote and co-produced. The, due out later this year, are set in the Dragon Age world of Ferelden, but don't appear to connect directly to any of the existing Dragon Age titles.

- Fans of growly metal voices can rest easy. Mike Patton will be reprising his role as as the shadow demons in The Darkness 2. (via VG241)

- Relic Games will be announcing their RTS sometime in...August.

- And for all you PC gamers looking to Hail to the King...Duke Nukem Forever will be using Steamworks.

- A developer working for Bioware proposed to a fellow Bioware dev using Minecraft. It's either the sweetest story you'll read all week, or the most nauseating. Maybe both. Someone needs to make them a Minecraft-themed wedding cake.

- The Criterion Collection - a set of 150+ pretentious underrated classic films - has been added to Hulu Plus.

The Kurosawa stuff is great, but some fans of the Criterion Collection... are just overbearing. I'll leave it at that.

That is a huge get for Hulu Plus. I wish it was on Netflix though because I'm already a subscriber there. The movies Criterion selects are usually good enough for a rent and the collection alone is worth it for the Kurosawa movies.

Kurosawa is in the Criterion Collection....know who else is?

Michael Fucking Bay - twice!

And I'm a Michael Bay fan and calling bullshit on that. Well, maybe not so much on The Rock, but yes on Armageddon.

Criterion has digital streaming rights to over 800 of the films in their library... We’re launching with over 150 Criterion movies today, and we’ll be adding more titles each month.

I really hope that stuff comes to Netflix.

Damn you Hulu!

I don't like how the market is splitting like this. I'm not going to subscribe to multiple services just to watch different movies. If something isn't on Netflix then I'm probably not going to watch it.

A Homeworld 3 announcement would be too good to be true.

It's pretty much all on Netflix already, just not all of it on instant play.

Which is why, while tempting, I'm not sure I can be bothered to pony up another $8 a month for the privilege.

None of it will be on Netflix streaming for long.

Are you guys sure that The Killer and Hard Boiled have Criterion versions? If so, how long ago did these films get the Criterion treatment. Those have gotta be pretty fuckin' sweet.

Also, cool points to Burger for not forgetting Videodrome. That right there's some good, nasty fun. I really enjoyed the Criterion release of Linklater's Dazed and Confused too.

Kurosawa's Kurosawa. If you're not a fan of that guy's stuff, I don't know what to tell you at this point ya' know?

Good news about Mike Patton and The Darkness 2. I loved his voice work for the first game.

La Strada, 400 Blows, Jules et Jim, Breathless, Seven Samurai... Those films are fucking awesome, original, beautiful, and deal with subject matter that is thought provoking and brave. Who the fuck would see any of those and then call them "pretentious"? I guess it makes sense if your attitude is "old films are pretentious cause their old and Italian films are pretentious cause their in Italian LOL." To automatically assume something is pretentious because it has garnered critical acclaim for half a century is pretty absurd. Yeah, ALL those people are just fronting and pretending to like stuff to fit in...

However, I already own almost every film listed there, so Hulu still doesn't get my attention. If they keep adding stuff like that, though, they definitely will.
