Phantasy Star Online 2, coming to... at least Windows PC, in 2011.

I guess this trailer only mentions PC, so maybe this should move to PC Gaming.

I really hope this moved to other platforms. I'd buy a genuine sequel to online in a heartbeat

If they're smart, they'll make it free to play. There's no way a PSO game could compete with current MMOs.

They wanted to charge for the original PSO but Sega of America wouldn't let them then when ver.2 came out the sales tanked hard... well that and that ver.2 was basically an expansion pack. PSO while fun is not worth $10-$15 a month. Might think about this game if moved to 360/PS3.

I would be all over this on the 360, I would even pay to play as long the fee was reasonable. If it is PC only I will probably skip it completely.

The Youtube of the trailer's been pulled, but that's no matter realy, there's no actual game footage of it, it's mostly a big trailer for PSP2, with some text at the end about PSO2.

I'll play it. I dug the original, and it's needed a proper sequel for a long time now. Tired of running Forest, and all the servers are down anyway.

The only thing that has me worried is the lack of Techniques or Force characters in that video.

Bah, at this stage if they haven't announced any platforms other than PC, I may just give up any hop of it coming to consoles and will most likely end up playing this if I update my pc in the next year or so.

I liked PSO, but it was never even close to worth paying monthly for. Landmark console title. Fairly shallow. Needs a big step up in game these days.

Whoa, May 20? That went from media blackout to a month from release REAL fast.

Let's see what sort of pricing model they go with. Freemium is pretty popular in the East, and it would go a long way to getting my friends to try it. It would also explain why there's no console version.

Well they said that it's in alpha testing this summer, so I don't think 5/20 is a release date.

You're probably right; that's probably the date testing will start.

So PSO2 (PC) is moving to beta. Details will be announced later this month. Guessing this will be a Japanese-only demo, since we haven't heard squat about this game from SOA.

Vita version still in early stages of development.

It looks like you can download the PSO2 benchmark utility and full character creator for free from the Japanese site.

Here is a link to a fan blog which includes screenshots to help you get through the basics.

I'm going to give it a shot when I get home from work.

Your second link is a bit broken.

The download is 446MB. Don't think i'll get it downloaded tonight, but do want to check this out soon.

Oops, fixed the link.

I got to play with this last night. I forget my score, but the benchmark ran at a pretty consistent 50fps throughout. Graphically, the game seems to be a step above Phantasy Star Universe, but I wasn't blown away or anything.

The character creator, on the other hand, is one of the best that I've seen. They give you morphers/sliders for just about everything for face and body. You can get pretty ridiculous with it, but it's not as bad as some games (Aion).
