Amazing Final Fantasy XIV Opening Cinematic

Square Enix held an event in Ebisu, Japan today to celebrate the impending launch of Final Fantasy XIV, and at its conclusion debuted the amazing opening cinematic for Final Fantasy XIV:

They certainly know how to do their CG, don't they? Final Fantasy XIV will launch on September 22nd for buyers of the Collector's Edition, September 30th for everyone else, both dates being for the PC edition. The PS3 will see the game this coming March.

Final Fantasy XIII was a huge buzzkill for the series.

And this is a completely different game by a completely different team, whatever FFXIII was has absolutely no bearing on this game. If you choose to judge XIV based on XIII that would be your own mistake.

It's Square's mistake for calling if XIV. Both XI & XIV should have had their own name. FF Online apparently would have made way too much sense.

That I would agree with, but at this point they already did it with XI, so XIV doesn't seem as out of place. MMOs are now part of the series.

If XIV has any stigma to overcome it's getting people to look past what they didn't like about XI (as much as I like it I realize many had issues with it) and getting them to give XIV a shot.

Well that was certainly a grand introduction.

Too bad the open beta fried my video card!

Impressive. But I wouldn't expect any less from SE on the CGI front

That was a fantastic opening. I hope that some of the boss guildleves capture the feeling of that malboro battle.

As mentioned in the main FFXIV thread, they are adding at some point the ability to "hack off" parts of a monster with the right skill and when positioned correctly . Plus the monster model will reflect things as such. That's pretty awesome and I don't remember seeing it in any other MMO.

Indeed there are.

Catgirls, specifically. For some reason the cat race in FF online games only has females . . .

I'm playing one of course.

Wow, that is one kickass trailer. CG has gotten so ridiculous in the past couple years.

Heh! I actually had just put all the settings at their lowest to see what it looked like and when I booted up the game again, looked around for a bit, and suddenly everything went blue/yellow. Googling told me that it was a bad VRAM issue.

I'm going to miss my 8800 GTX, but it was about time for an upgrade anyway.

Your video card was weak and needed to be purged. Hail the mighty SE for revealing the truth of your computer's inadequacies. The reckoning is at hand.

Or... something.
