Before any console or handheld versions, it needs widescreen resolution, for crying out loud. Or at least something bigger than 1280x960.

So I finished the main game. Yeah, worth every damn cent, even if I never go and do post-game.

I think this game is a good fit for the PC, since there's nothing else quite like it. Of course the PC is loaded with economic sims, but this one definitely stands out from the crowd.

Considering that the game came out in 2007, and that the developers have since moved on to other games, I doubt you'll see any ports of this anywhere. Though, all of their games do seem to take place in the same setting, with characters making cameos in different games. There is another one of their games that was fantranslated (I believe) called Chantelise, but I think that was all dungeon crawling. If I understand things correctly, the game they released before Recettear actually had a shop element to it, but it had much less emphasis placed on it; they expanded on that with Recettear.

Also: Yes, I hate that the Japanese don't seem to have taken to widescreen resolutions as well as the West. You can also see this when you try to find wallpapers of Japanese things, they're almost always in fullscreen resolutions exclusively.

You definitely want to to do the post-game. The vast majority of the story takes place in the final dungeon.

How the heck do you unlock more dungeons? I just finished off Amber Garden and got Tielle. I still haven't figured out how to make Arma give me her card.

After amber, take some time to go around town and chat with people. The town locations always flash if there's someone there to talk to. Eventually after some chats, one of your store openings will start with Louie running in to tell you the new dungeon's opened. After you beat that dungeon (The Obsidan Tower) same thing will happen again, a few events later, Arma opens up the last dungeon.

There are two characters only unlock-able in post game (Endless mode). Arma's one of them and you won't be unlocking her for a loooooooooong time.

Also, while avoiding spoilers, finding out just why Arma is in the shop so often really made me laugh. Suddenly so much of the game made sense.

New Favorite quote from the game (About Recette) "Her delusions are of the magnitude that start religions. BAD ones.". "Really, I could write books about the reality you live in."

Endless is the post-game that I'm referring to. New Game+ is really only good if you want to experience the story again, or earn more "true" cards (which are only good for more New Game+ runs).

Go to the town square at night. You'll have a few encounters with Griffe. Open your store in the evening after two of these encounters and Griffe should come in (you may need to make your store have dark atmosphere). Get a couple of these events, and at some point Louie will announce the addition of a new dungeon, the Obsidian Tower (50F). Beat the tower to get Griffe as an adventurer.

To get Arma, you need to get all other adventurers. Open the store on the following morning, and she will come in, and open a new dungeon, Lapis Lazuli (100F). Beat the dungeon to get Arma as an adventurer. She gives you her true card right out of the gate, but she starts off at lvl 1.

Following Lapis Lazuli, a new dungeon will open (without announcemnt) called Crystal Nightmare. This is where you farm for lvl 5 fusion ingredients.

They don't sell the wireless adapter to use 360 controllers on the PC any more? I love that thing.

They do, I think...I haven't seen one in a long time around here though. And honestly, wireless controller is all well and good if you already own one. Seems sort of wasteful to buy one AND an adapter for 20-30 bucks when I can just get a wired controller for 50 around here.

Plus, if I ever get another 360, I'll have 2 controllers right off the bat

...But god I wish I would've remembered the TRON one was coming out in a month...

I think I might pick up that TRON one, actually... It at least has a cross-shaped d-pad.

A long time ago I got fed up with crappy USB gamepads and just started using an original Dual Shock with an adapter that I found online. It's pretty amazing how enormously superior they are to PC-specific gamepads.

That said, I think I still have the Gravis Gamepad I got for Jazz Jackrabbit somewhere.

I don't think I'd gfet that TRON one, as awesome as it is. I'm trying to reduce the amount of gratuitous LEDs in my life.

That's what I did. I bought a $15 Playstation controller adapter years ago and use a Dualshock 2 when I want to use a gamepad on the PC.

I enjoyed the demo of the game, although it suffers from an overabundance of dialog like many JRPGs, which I hope is much lower in the rest of the game.

After you get through the tutorials the game's pace picks up significantly.
