That doesn't seem like a troll, at all, even by the loosest definition of the term. That seems like an honest and frank take on the situation based on personal experience. Whether or not it is the truth, or upsetting, is irrelevant, it is a perfectly valid statement given the topic at hand.

A better explanation would be that, rather frequently, if you bring up the reasons for moderation you will be a victim of moderation yourself. I'm not saying that's true of here, but of internet forums in general; moderators have a loose grip on the fair use of their powers and if you push the wrong button they will explode in your face. It's not surprising, forum moderators don't typically get paid (or don't get paid much for that particular duty), and even professional peace keepers are known for flying off the handle when their authority is questioned. This community is still young, so for now things are still relatively peaceful (and the moderators are still pretty nice), but moderator fatigue is likely already setting in and their tolerance for anything they see as bullshit will degrade over time.

We split off of Evil Avatar largely due to overzealous moderation, particularly when it came to topics discussing moderation. It is not surprising that when the issue comes up here, many of the same people who were there during the split are coming up on the same side of the issue: If moderation is questionable, it probably isn't warranted.

Let's clarify the "we" you're talking about Drew. I think a lot of users had different reasons for leaving and coming over here, some of which are the same reasons "we" did.

The "we" is of course the Founders who started the site. Drew's stated reason is why we made the move we did along with other stuff that was building. This was what broke the camel's back though.

And we should also expand the donation money thing outside of him just funding family trips. He obviously used the money to do other things outside of the trips. He'll just never own up to doing so and will continue to make people believe he doesn't make enough in ad revenue to cover site costs without doing donation drives.
