WeekDAY gaming(7/12/10)- What are YOU still playing?

And so it goes. Here we are again being greeted with the week’s other transitional day, Monday. For many the transition is part of life the yin to the yang the butter to the peanut flowers and rainbows flow through their thoughts as no pain is felt as the days flow together the transition barely felt. Then there are some who take the transition a bit less comfortable. Who greet the day like stone through a kidney, a black knight fighting the evil dragon greeting each transition as if another scar made across their body. For those then a proper relief from such transitions is given relief from the hallowed sweet nectar filled days of vacation. The sufferers blow a few raspberries on those transition free Mondays, screaming “not today you life draining day”. So then how will such a sufferer react to the dreaded “back to work” day? Well our new weekday/weekend correspondent WeekDAY Gnome has that answer. The weekday thread presents Man returns to work after vacation:

Lots of coffee and donuts for Kelegacy who we await his insights on being back at work. Don’t worry Kel, only another 10 hrs to go before the first day back is done. Love it, hate it or the well adjusted the weekday beckons. We salute you (as does Kel with a one finger) weekday. The week begins!
Before going into the weekday’s light, the usual retread of what was before or at least what was played by me:

Toy Story 3- to many insane thoughts on actually thinking 100% in this game. I think I need someone to steal the disc and send it back to Gamefly for me.

P3P- Played enough to be pulled back in and remember why I love this game so much. I haven’t even gotten far enough for any kind of sensible love but hearing the music was enough. If it wasn’t for TS3 I wouldn’t have put this game down.

Not much of a list with TS3 continuing to dominate my time. Ease of play + continued heat equaled doing anything outside not a wanted option, so instead I hid away in the A/C. What of yourselves? Weekend gossip, your gaming stories then onto the plan for the week. What did you play and what will you continue to play?

P3P. It'll probably be this same thing for a little while now. I tend to play these games with the full intention of replaying them, so I neglect certain things the first time through so I can focus on others that carry over from one game to the next.

Inb4 crass "jokes," and chatter about everything but playing. (I was going to say inb4 Persona, but that's basically impossible.)

I'll be starting in on some DS/PSP stuff. I'm going on a trip next week, and between time spent in airports and time spent away from my consoles and PC, handhelds will reign for a short while.

Thus, I'll be trying out Infinite Space, Dragon Quest 9, and maybe even picking back up with Jeanne D'Arc.

Watched the worldcup and had a birthday this weekend, so not much gaming to be had.

Did get in some PQ2 and Last Remnant. Timesinks ahoi.

Got further in inFamous close to halfway through the Warren District. Also still working on Zelda: Spirit Tracks which is a lot better than the Phantom Hourglass so far.

My son and I are working on the Braaaaaaains quest to finish up our tour of the Jakob company's quaint sea-side resort town before moving back to Pandora proper for a few more levels to prepare for the armory of General Knoxx.

I've started a run through of Dragon Age: Origins...and am having a hard time of it. I think I need to get over the "Diablo" style of healing item use and treat this a bit more as a survival horror kind of game. At least until I can get a healer in my party. Plus my tactical use of my party leaves a bit to be desired. I'm getting there, but there has been much frustration thus far.

Picked up Empire at War (among several other items) at Steam's big summer sale and have started crushing the rebel threat. Pretty fun, particular for what I paid. Good old Steam.

I didn't get to play all that much. I played a bit more Killzone 2, which I've been able to enjoy more once I changed my playstyle. I'm normally the hold back and pick guys off kind of FPS gamer, but that style just doesn't work well in KZ2. So once I just said "fuck it" and started running around blasting the crap out of guys it wasn't half bad. It's still not a great game, the weapons are largely indistinguishable form one another for the most part and it just doesn't feel like it does all that much that's interesting, but it's fun enough for a mindless shooter. Playing this though just makes me wish Sony would put more weight behind Resistance, which I really like, and less behind this.

I also played some more PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe, fun stuff. I didn't get to play any Peace Walker, but I'll be changing that this week. The urge is strong to pick up Dragon Quest IX, especially with Toys R Us's deal. I'll wait to see what people around here think of it, or at the very least check for some reviews.

Had a great time picking up where I left off with Team Fortress 2. I didn't realize how many updates there has been since I stopped playing when Left 4 Dead was released. I didn't have ANY Heavy, Spy, Demo, Scout, and obviously, Engy achievement. Ended up unlocking quite a bit this weekend.

Did a co-op run through of Army of Two, the first game... not a good game. Also played some Battlefield Bad Company 2, and Counterstrike: Source and Left 4 Dead.

Crackdown 2 - Popped into an online game with some friends last night, felt weedy due to my 3 agility and they were running around with 5. They had me get into a car so they could throw me up to the helicopter pad and I flew around for the rest of the evening

Oblivion - Running around at level 21, just starting the main quest. Mainly to get some daedric armour

White Knight Chronicles - Slogging through, don't know why, something to do I guess

Team Fortress 2 - Completely failed to play this over the weekend, although it's probably full of engineers only at the moment.

Well, the in-laws are gone so I'm alone with the kids for a couple of days before going back to work. I need to get stuff emptied out of my bedroom as we're painting/renovating it while I'm on 'vacation' next week. *shootmenow!*

Given that I was working, attending a wedding and trying to find my gazebo over the weekend, I actually managed to play a decent amount of games. Well, more to the point, I put a chunk of time into one or two games.

P3P (PSP) - I've probably put in about 10 or so hours over the past few days and the time has just flown by. I made it past the Monorail last night, so I can finally start registering things in the compendium and fusing with impunity.

Words With Friends (iPhone) - I made the mistake of loading this on my Dad's iPhone just prior to my cousin's wedding reception on Saturday and he spent the whole meal (and speeches, etc.) playing against me or texting me to bug me about taking too long to listen to the speeches and NOT PLAYING A WORD! Hmm... reminds me of a certain Purple Santa who is about 2 weeks behind on playing his word. I bet it's a doozy.

We Rule (iPhone) - Something is going screwy with We Rule. It was working fine on my phone yesterday but last night it started basically locking up the phone. Sigh. My kingdom!

Bioshock 2 (PC) - I made it to Pauper's Grotto or whatever it's called last night. I wonder if I can knock the difficulty down. I shouldn't have set it on hard as I'm always running out of ammo and basic splicers are taking far too many shots to bring down. I won't get into the exercise in futility that is fighting a Rosie or a Big Sister.

The Curse Of Monkey Island (PC) - I found this at a garage sale on Saturday for $2! Alas, I haven't actually been able to play it as it does NOT like Win7 64-bit. I think I have some workaround though, thanks to my brother-in-law (who has my original copy!)

That's about it. Not a lot of games but I spent WAY too long playing P3P.

I'm heading out today to find a copy of DQIX. I was to resist it but Mike Kelehan made far too compelling an arguement over on the DQIX thread (basically - GO BUY IT OR YOU WON'T BE COOL!)

Sigh. Why do so many good JRPGs have to come out at the same time?

I ended up playing quite a bit of Dragon Age: Origins over the weekend. I'll probably continue that this week as well. I still need to play TF2 since the engineer update. Also, I have Star Wars: The Force Unleashed if I can find some free time.

As Purple says, vacation is over. Today is my last day. Ugh, sucks. It wasn't much of a relaxing vacation with a 1-year old, but it was still nice to spend time with the family. We did a lot of crap, but I just didn't relax as much as I wanted.

I am playing:

Just Cause 2 - great game just to dick around in. When I'm not sure what I want to play I just fire it up. It satisfies me. The world is also very pretty. I was caught in the headlights of a sunset yesterday and it was beautiful.

Uncharted 2
- DAMN this game is pretty. I'm trying to relish it so much. I'm on chapter 5 now, in Nepal. Playing on Hard out of the block as I am an Uncharted veteran. The only thing that pulls me away is Just Cause 2, when I just want to vent and play a mindless game.

Not much else, though I've had a serious desire to play Ultima VII again like I do every year. It's my favorite game of all time and I can't help but want to stroke it every now and then. So much nostalgia that DOES hold up just the same as it did 15+ years ago or so. I will need to tweak Exult to get the original sound files instead of the remastered stuff.

Force Unleashed Sith Edition.
Starting to hate it. At times it is far too simple when I think there is a puzzle there is not. When I think there is no puzzle to be solved there is. I am on the trash planet and slogging through it. Totally bored. Something about it just doesn't make me think...Star Wars like levels with storm troopers and shit.
May give it up.

Armed Assault 2 Operation Arrowhead. Wow. I forget how engaging those games can be. Last night played for a couple hours. Dropping in on a helo and zip lining down into contested villages as tanks fight right outside the walls is insane. No one man army game either. You need to work together to have ANY chance. Great game.

ADDGirl is having trouble with We Rule too. I don't think it is just your phone. As for the guilt about WWF...you do a great impression of a jewish mother with lines of guilt like that

I think i'm going to treat myself next week and buy DQIX.

Well you were wound a bit tight when you were leaving for your vacation. Hence what inspired the thread in your honor. I had originally wanted to do some stick figures with a kelegacy like stick figure with a bloody sword...then some co-workers headless. Fortunately Mr. Gnome came through with his pic so I went the easy route instead. I also tried to find a kitty pic that showed the kitty breathing fire.

I'm almost jealous of you getting to play that through for the first time now, it's such a fantastic game. I need to play through that again.

Everybody's Golf World Tour (Hot Shot Golf OoB): I picked it up for approx. $10 and I'm having fun with it. I absolutely hate the characters and their voices but the gameplay is solid. This is the kind of game I'll pop in now and again when I don't have much time.

Final Fantasy 13: I've played 3 hours now and I still don't hate it. It looks like it might be worth the $1 (+and old game) I paid for it. I do get embarrassed when my girlfriend walks in while I'm playing since the characters and story is painfully stupid. The GF just shakes her head and thinks I'm a lunatic, but that's probably true anyway . I'll have to see how long the game holds my interest.

I did try Asassin's Creed 2 this weekend, but I was disappointed by the graphics and controls. I'm not sure if I'll try it again.

There's no reason you're not allowed to like it. Based on the comments around here, I sometimes think I am one of bigger complainers about its problems, even going so far to say it's the worst main Final Fantasy so far. Yet I still played it all the way to the end. Didn't get all the trophies, but I did put in a fair amount of time to it.

Worse than 2 or 3? While it isn't the strongest in the series, I don't think it's that bad. I know a lot of people really didn't like it, though, it really isn't for everyone. It reminded me quite a bit of the way the Xenosaga games flowed, and I loved that trilogy. But I know those got a lot of hate, too.

Oh, crap, you got me. I've only played a little of 2 and haven't finished 3. Guess I need to go through more of them so I can complain properly.
