World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Beta Opt-in

Blizzard has announced that you can now opt-in for the beta of the upcoming expansion Cataclysm. All you need to do is get your system specs uploaded to Battle.Net and then choose to take part in the beta and you could potentially be chosen to participate when the corresponding phase of the beta goes live.

The new expansion introduces two new races to the game, Goblins for the Horde and Worgen for the Alliance. Of course, the level cap will see an increase up to 85. Even more interesting will be some of the changes that look to be made to the old continents as a result of the expansion. Along with many other features, Blizzard will be adding achievements and levels for guilds just in case you weren't happy with only being able to level up your own character.

I'd suggest resubbing decently soon. Blizzard will be releasing pre-cata content for free.

The only date they've confirmed is "2010".

I think I'm most interested to see how the guild advancement stuff pans out. Could be a fun way for guilds to differentiate themselves.

They will launch Cata after Blizzcon. At the rate blizzard goes with betas etc. Late October, early November looks like a good date. I just hope the new battle net works properly.

Every time I get into a MMO beta, I end up playing it too much and then get burned out before launch. Going to let Cataclysm pass by and enjoy it on day one.

That's my worry. If I get one I'll piddle around with the Worgen and Goblins since I don't plan on rolling one of those til I'm 85 and have a decent amount of end game raid content down.
