This. I'd be happy to have Favreau or Whedon on this really. I mean any director who you'd know would be able to capture the feel of what's supposed to be going on, in a comic book movie no less.

Like the Fantastic Four movies, while watchable left me thinking "really" over and over again. Takes me back to Ninja Turtles dancing with Vanilla Ice. It's like Hulk vs the newer Hulk. Ang Lee, is not a super hero movie director.

At the risk of raining on the hype parade, I'd like to point out that other than Serenity, Joss has directed no other movies. Personally if I were Marvel, I'd be parking a perpetual money truck on Jon Favreau's front doorstep until he agreed to do it. Of all of the Marvel properties, Favreau's Iron Man was far and away the best debut outing of any of their franchises (quality wise, box office obviously goes to Raimi's Spiderman), and given that Raimi has likely soured on working with Marvel (thank Avi Arad for shoe horning Venom into Spiderman 3), and Bryan Singer skipped town to drop the turd that was Superman Returns on an unsuspecting public. Favreau is the only director in the Marvel stable who is does bankable, quality flicks.

I think a Joss Avengers could be interesting, but a big budget, blockbuster ensemble in the hands of a director more often associated with dialog-heavy, quirk-laden, TV dramas worries me.

As I said he also did the upcoming Cabin in the woods and Dr. Horrible, which was feature length. I think it was his ability to make every last penny worth. Case in point, Serenity looks like a movie with twice the budget. But I also previously stated my trepidation, in my clearly superior thread, on this. It could be less Astonishing Xmen and more Runaways.

I also think the reason Favereau doesn't want to make this movie is because he can't make this movie. At least that is the impression I get from interviews.

Also, Whedon will be rewriting Zak Penn's script. Which is probably a good thing.

You know, I was joking when I started wondering which Wehdonverse actors would end up in the Avengers movie. Now comes word from an anonymous 'source' that Hank Pym will be played by none other than Nathan Fillion.

Nathan Fillion is pretty much locked to be Henry Pym, and should be announced before any other new additions to the cast (think around Comic Con)

It's odd at first, but just picture Fillion in glasses and a labcoat, effecting a meek persona. I like it.
