Media Create Sales for 03-15 to 03-21 - Yakuza 4

Here are the software and hardware numbers from Japan, straight from Media Create, for the week 03-15 to 03-21.

Yakuza 4 topped the software chart last week, with 383,972 copies sold, close to the ~372k copies sold for Yakuza 3 for the week ending March 1 2009. Gundam Assault Survive for PSP was at number 2 with 90,994 copies sold. Sony was also on top of the hardware charts with the PS3 and PSP platforms outselling all rivals.

The PS3 and PSP have better software libraries than any other console or portable according to Famitsu. Courtesy of 1UP:
Quote:
According to figures released in the current issue, 77 out of the 171 PS3 games Famitsu has reviewed as of the end of 2009 received a total score of 32/40 or greater, qualifying it for a Gold award. This means that 45.05% of the PS3's library in Japan is "gold" -- according to Famitsu's review staff, anyway.

This puts the PS3 just slightly ahead of the Xbox 360 percentage-wise -- over in Japan, 104 out of 240 360 titles reviewed got gold awards, 43.33% of the library. The good news continues in the portable realm, with 23.2 percent of PSP titles going gold versus 17.14% of Nintendo DS releases.

See the whole list:
Etrian Odyssey 3 was warmly received by Famitsu's reviewers this week scoring 9/9/8/9. Dead or Alive Paradise didn't do quite so well, scoring 8/8/6/7.

I wonder where Sega is standing on bringing that one to the states. Not sure how well Y3 did.

It seems unlikely but perhaps they should just hand it off to someone like Atlus. That way we wouldn't need to be complaining about missing hostess minigames, most likely.

Btw, I meant to post about this translated comment about DoA Paradise on the 1UP Famitsu review coverage, which I found a bit amusing:
Quote:
Other reviewers were harsh on the game's lack of selection in the minigames, but one went even further and whined a bit about the DOA girls' attitude. "This is the sort of game you're meant to relax and unwind with, but it's frankly off-putting the way some girls say things like 'I can't believe you!' or 'Hurry it up!' whenever you make a mistake," he wrote. "I also don't like how you can't zoom in on pictures in your photo album."
I can kind of understand the expectation that virtual girls should be more accommodating than real ones .

And that was from a "professional" reviewer? Dammit Famitsu.

Anyway, I picked up Yakuza 3 yesterday. I was going to buy FFXIII, but after the clerk went to get it I noticed Yakuza 3 hidden out of the way. I think he wanted to cry when I told him to swap the games.

Yakuza 3 has been out in Japan for over a year now, we're just really late getting it in the states.

Maybe he was trying to consider the typical audience for the game .

I'm about 10 hours into FFXIII. Thinking maybe I should have done what you did.

Put it this way, I damn well know I can buy FFXIII whenever I feel like it, most likely when the price drops. Yakuza? Not so much.

I highly doubt DOA is even worth half those grades.

Hey, I liked the Xbox version. Although, getting my presents turned down all the time kind of sucked .
