Weekend gaming(3/26/10)- What are YOU playing?
![]() Doh! Another weekend rolls around and I’m not prepared. I’ll blame it on my game addiction, playing too much God of War III. Or I’m too lazy. Or maybe I have a list of ideas for future threads that I should begin to try to use BEFORE the weekend thread. Well look at that. I talked about nothing as usual, enough to fill the opening of this thread. Cheap attempt or not to finish…Happy Weekend! This weekend is all about the job hunt…still. When not trying to whore myself out to the next employer, I’ll distract my thoughts (the few I have these days) with the following: God Of War III- OhMyGod. I can’t believe I like this game this much. I loved I, thought II was “ok” and really liked Chains. The look, the controls…to me it’s all better. The Calling- I had a…calling for this game via Evil Avnovice. See if it will last the weekend to make the send back or not cut to Gamefly. SMT: Strange Journey- I really wanted to buy this but expenses had to be cut. Hopefully GF will have it for me by Saturday. Viking- Because there is a crazed fan in these threads that wants me to continue playing. We are done. Start talking about the weekend. Chat it up. Hug it out. What’s on the game platter for the weekend? What will YOU play?

Got Final Fantasy XIII from Goozex a couple of days ago. Got to the start of Chapter 3 last night. I'm leaving around noonish to play the rest of the day.

I'm hoping to spend a good portion of this weekend playing Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. I've played a little so far. Gotten a couple of demon companions, finished a couple of the early missions, and am looking forward to more.

L4D2 - Picked this up on sale from Steam and have played it at every opportunity, as I've been mentioning all over the boards now. It's a bit of a shame, though, because as much as I enjoy the co-op campaign, I'm not sure I'll ever spend more than a few minutes in the other modes. As fun as the campaigns are, competitive L4D modes just doesn't sound like as much fun at all to me.
Incidentally, if I spend intensive time with some games, I may dream about them. I dreamt I was a survivor last night. Good times. I have FFXIII, but a slack interest in playing it. Dante's Inferno is taking a long time to arrive, and I'm starting to get anxious. Already got the "when did this arrive?" email from Gamefly. I hope it didn't get pilfered. Enjoy those GoW playthroughs, fellows. I almost wish I hadn't gone through my first so quickly, but once the action gets rolling - a second or two after pressing start, really - it's hard to put down. |

Opoona - My adventures continue on Landroll. Actually, they're closer to "just beginning" since I'm only in the second town doing the first license job. Great little game. If I get time to play it enough, I'll gush some more this weekend. Rune Factory Frontier + de Blob - should these arrive this weekend I'll pop them in and try them out. Excited! But I can't get TOO into RFF yet, as I'm still playing Opoona and don't want to neglect it. 360 Brutal Legend - this game pissed me off last night but I'll give it another try tonight. Otherwise, I'm done with it. LIFE Painting - two weeks ago I was set to paint our kitchen and bathroom but I got sick just as the weekend was about to start. So tonight we're picking up the paint, will ship the boy off tomorrow, and we'll spend the day painting. I might also swing by Gamestop today when getting paint because the Gamedays sale is on and Resident Evil 4 Wii edition is $12.99 and Cursed Mountain is $10 brand new. My son is also going to see the Easter Bunny tomorrow at Walgreens and they are even giving free pictures out for parents.

Finally finished Assassin's Creed II last night. That's the first game I've ever got all of the achievements (Praise Be to the Internets, or I never would've found that feather on the bridge in Florence). While I'll miss Ezio and company, I'm looking forward to something new.
And judging from Santa's glowing praise, that something new should be God of War III. I haven't started yet, being in the thrall of ACII, but I'll get it going this weekend. I'll also return to BF:BC2 after a bit of a hiatus. Hopefully, my son and I can get in some L4D2 co-op time, while my daughter and I try to finish either Batman Lego or spend some time with Lord of the Rings: Conquest. |

My wife is home this weekend to help watch the little guy so hopefully that means some more gaming opportunities for me. In fact, I'm starting the fun early by working from home part of the day today!
God of War 3: I'm going to start my second play-through and work on getting some more trophies. I may take a crack at some of the challenges as well. I just had to experience this game again. Usually I wait a bit longer before playing through something for a second time. Final Fantasy XIII: I've been working through the missions on Gran Pulse. I'd like to do as many as I can before they get too hard and then move back on with the story. I've sunk about 28 hours into this game thus far and I am still enjoying it quite a bit. Lunar: Silver Star Harmony: Grabbed this for the PSP yesterday. I've never played Lunar before in any of its previous iterations so I'm hoping this is the definitive version. Looking forward to digging into it as a side portable project to my other gaming. I should be playing Jeanne d'Arc but I'm just not feeling like a SRPG at the moment for some reason. The backlog: These are the games that I may or may not get to this weekend but still need to work on... Assassin's Creed II Darksiders Bayonetta Mirror's Edge Dead Space Valkyria Chronicles (yes, I seriously still haven't played this) Jeanne d'Arc That's kinda depressing... With the gaming onslaught that has been constant since the fall finally drawing to a close, I was also thinking about picking up the following if I manage to catch up on the backlog: A Boy and His Blob Muramasa Heavy Rain Red Steel 2

If anything, it's worse because I wind up getting lots of games for cheap and they sit on my shelf just waiting for me to finally get to them. And I'm there with you about wanting to get Boy and His Blob and Muramasa. Neither are too expensive now, I think ABaHB is $20 new and Muramasa is $25 used at Gamestop.

I'll probably go back to Forza 3 and get a little further. Havent played that in quite a while.
Blazblue is coming out soon in South Africa (I think we are getting the European version). Um.... would I need an arcade stick for that? Mine was left behind in the UK.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey - I started playing last night, and so far it's been awesome and everything I expected. Right now I'm wandering around trying to collect Forma so I can create new gear. If you combined Etrian Odyssey, Pokemon, and demons, this is what you get. I'll probably play it all weekend, especially while watching the NCAA tourney.
God of War 3 - I think I have an hour or two left in the game, so I should really try to finish it today and send it back to Gamefly tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'll be able to tear myself away from SMT:SJ even that much though. Being sick all week and not playing any games really messed up my playthrough, I think. Final Fantasy XIII - If I do finish GoW3 today, I'll throw this back into the PS3 to mess around with some. I didn't play this at all this week either, so I'm still working on missions, getting CP, upgrading weapons, and trying to collect some nice accessories. I should really try to at least grind some CP or something since I have a bad habit of never going back to games if I don't play them for an extended time. Edit: I almost forgot; Yakuza 2 should hopefully arrive in the mail today or tomorrow, so I'll probably be playing that a ton too. I can't wait to see how the story continues from Yakuza. |

I also may end up squeezing in some Sacred 2, Gamestop has it on sale for $20 starting today, I've been waiting for the game to hit that mark ever since it came out about a year ago.

Final Fantasy XIII is about it for me. One game at a time. I was goofing around chapter 11 last night and I was surprised by Juggernaut. He was tough but I survived.
Purple, that pic is awesome.

Turn Me

I'm quasi-off this weekend. I do have to go into work on Sunday evening but that's to take one of the guys to see Wrestlemania at the theatre... and given that I don't follow wrestling at all anymore, I have no idea if this is going to be bliss or torture
![]() I'm also happy that the gaming deluge has finally subsided. I've managed to finish off a few games over the past couple of weeks and that helps to bouy the spirit and show that it is possible to put some games in the "complete" pile. That being said, here's what is on my plate for the next couple of days. Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey (DS) - Finally got to buckle down and play this game while still conscious yesterday and ooooh boy, is it ever scratching the Etrian Odyssey itch that has been stuck in my brain for the last couple of months. I get all of my sci-fi/demony SMT love coupled with some pared-down first person dungeon crawling... and I can take it with me wherever I want? Sign me up! I've only done a couple of missions so far but I am really enjoying what I've seen. FFXIII (PS3) - I'm back on the FF train now. Woo woo! I'm somewhere in Chapter 6 (not terribly far) and I'm eagerly awaiting the time when Vanille can unleash her Ultima Flounce attack. Yeesh, I mean, I like her chipper Aussie demeanour, but watching her prance about the jungle is making me cringe. Infinite Space (DS) - I MIGHT get back to this over the weekend, but as much as I'm liking it, the polish that SMT: SJ has over Infinite Space is going to likely win me over. Miles Edgeworth (DS) - I'd like to at least finish the third case before being too distracted by other things. I'm soooo close I can taste it! Cryostasis (PC) - Now that Mass Effect 2 is done, I am in the mood for a shooter on the PC. Cryostasis looks to be a nice mix of adventure, survival horror and FPS mechanics... Team Fortress 2 (PC) - I've been jumping in with the CoG server group periodically over the last little while. I still suck but I'm not dying quite so quickly anymore. That's about it for me. Dragon Age is calling to me again but I don't want to be mired in TOO many big RPGs... plus I just finished Mass Effect 2, so I need a moment or 3 to let my brain cool down. I'm also probably taking my son to see How To Train Your Dragon tomorrow in 3D. I love having kids because it gives me an excuse to go see more movies

I finally got the God of War Collection in. I'll probably play a good chunk of that.
Maybe some L4D2 if I run into people on Steam from here. |

I have no less than THREE birthday parties to go to this weekend. In fact, two of them are tonight. The good thing is, the wife is out of town so any time I'm NOT at a party, I will be gaming my brains out.
Assassin's Creed II - This is the number one thing I'm playing right now. It's really fun and I like the changes so far. I have a sneaking suspicion I will obsessively be hunting down the Subject 16 videos. I'm already 1/4 of the way through. Borderlands - I will probably be continuing my co-op playthrough with a friend of mine. It's been really fun so far. Team Fortress 2 - As always, there will be TF2. I have all the unlocks and I'm working on getting other random drops (sadly, short of an idle server, I just have to play and hope for the best).
