WeekDAY gaming(3/8/10)- Why are YOU not playing FFXIII MagGnome?

Welcome gamers to the weekday express gaming thread. What is the express part of the thread? A not so clever way of stating I’m creatively void at the moment so today to greet everyone back from the weekend its hello, have a great week, have some coffee tea or Red bull/drink of choice as another new week beckons.

A quick review of my weekend goodness:

Bioshock 2- A very good game that saved the best for the end of the game.

Heavy Rain- Still impressed and loving it the more I keep playing.

Dante’s Inferno- The disc refuses to be burned.

Lunar Silver Star Harmony- Flashbacks. Lots of them. Is that a good thing?

Express checkout: What did YOU play and what will YOU keep playing?

Final Fantasy XIII - This is going to be the big game of the week which I spend most of my time on. I'm really looking forward to it, and I don't expect most of the common complaints to bother me. It has the things I want most from a FF game; if I wanted something different, I would play more Fallout 3, Mass Effect 2, or whatever.

Yakuza - I'm really hoping that this arrives from Gamefly today so that I can play it most of the night and get a feel for it before having to set it aside. I wish it had arrived Saturday so that I could have spent the weekend on it, but alas, it was not to be. Most likely it will arrive tomorrow instead and will have to wait for me to finish FFXIII.

Dragon Quest V - I spent the weekend playing this to satisfy the JRPG itch I had. I'm really enjoying it, and I just started the third generation last night. Depending on whether Yakuza arrives today, and what else I'm doing, I may try to finish off the main story of the game, or I might just grind some to level up my new characters and collect some new armor and weapons. Most likely I'll just mess around with it some since I don't want to get almost to the end and have to stop, and I also don't want to burn myself out.

Forza 3 - Once the new CoG hot lap is posted, I'll probably try it out sometime this week and see how much slower than everyone else I am. It was still fun messing around with though.

Random Steam Sale Game - I didn't even open Steam this weekend, and I probably won't this week either. Maybe next weekend. Yeah, right.

I can't wait for tomorrow to finally be able to check out FFXIII for myself, and it'll also be nice to finally join the CoG Yakuza club. Do we get some sort of special back tattoo, Santa?

I played:

A shitton of different stuff. I went through my whole gamecollection (well, a big part, on Saturday evening). Played SF4, BlazBlue, FarCry 2 mostly though.

Also started up UC2 MP again, which was fun.

Zen Pinball
with the GF.

I'll see how this week plays out. I think I'm not buying FFXIII unless I get it cheap somewhere. I sure ain't paying the full 60 bucks for it.

The biggest thing I played was moving my sister out of my apartment after living with me and my wife for the past six months. There were times when it seemed that day would never come. And there were times when I thought there was no way we were getting through this without killing each other. So nice to have her gone.

On the gaming side, I pushed almost to the full end of Muramasa. At last I got the final blades, and got the third ending for Momohime. I need to level Kisuke up far enough so he can equip the last blade so I can see his final ending, but I'd like to finish it off since I'm so close.

Also pushed a tiny bit further through the third case of Miles Edgeworth.

This week, despite all my naysaying and shit-talking, I'm going to pick up Final Fantasy XIII, almost entirely because amazon is doing one of their $10 game coupons, essentially bringing it down to $50. If only they were doing that with Yakuza 3. At $55, I'm not quite going to bite.

Brutal Legend maybe.

Maybe some Sacred Gold.

Today MadWorld should show up, so that'll be popped in the Wii.

Played a lot of Battlefield this weekend. Normally, I'm a single-player kind of guy, but this one has really pulled me in with the multiplayer. Xbox Live has even been good - no particular problems with juvenile behavior - which surprised me pleasantly. I just unlocked a semi-auto shotgun (Saiga I believe) last night, which I love.

Started playing WoW again, and am really liking some of the improvements they've made - particularly with the map system working with quests (go to this spot to slay your 10 corrupted heros for example). My Shammy is working his way through the Argent Crusade daily Valiant quests. 5% more XP and I'll have my first 80.

I fully intended to start up Darksiders this weekend, but Battlefield ate up my console time. If I don't get that started this week before GoW hits, it may end up sitting despondently on my shelf for a while...

Gamefly has shipped FFXIII to me. To bad it will be the weekend before I can play it. I'm sort of glad because Yakuza 3 is next on my queue but I really want to get through Yakuza 2 before getting 3.

Besides the poor control at times Yakuza was a blast. Thanks to all of those that recommended it and made me give it another chance. One thing, if I am so bad ass and only lost one fight the entire game (to the shotgun wielding tranny) why did street punks keep messing with me? I mean, I had a reputation for beating the shit out of them. You would think I would have had to chase them down to fight.

Because of travel I'm going to be playing a lot of iphone and casual pc titles this week. I'm not sure why I am putting effort into looking for games to play since that really isn't much different than most weeks for me.

I hope this week goes fast. I want to get back, beat FFXIII and start playing Yakuza 2. Oh, and then that Monster Hunter Tri game will be coming out on the Wii soon. It looks like I'm becoming a gamer again.

Speaking of Wii, I dreamed I sold mine last night for $215. Any takers?

Lol. I am not a tattoo person myself although I do admire the art. I think if there was a way to get a non-permanent Yakuza tattoo that would be awesome. So in the mail you will receive a "apply water" sticker tattoo for your joining the cult...I mean club

I can't imagine living with my sister. I try to forget the first 20 yrs she lived with me at my parents home

If I love a series (and there are soooo many) I buy the game despite all the naysaying. If I was an FF fan I would buy it. Bioshock 2 was supposed to be an example of "not the same" yadda yadda yadda. I enjoyed it and for those who didn't...oh well. I think there is very few if any big releases like FF that aren't shit upon so it feels you are playing some budget title game instead.

That's a good point about the street punks. I'm guessing there is always someone who can think they can kick someone's ass. I actually went looking for fights to "level up" and it was so much fun beating up on them Yakuza 2 you will really enjoy. The controls get smoothed out and it is like "buttah".

Yeah. It had been about fifteen years since I'd lived with her, or even seen her that much. But she is still the same psycho that I knew in high school. I'd hoped she had matured a little, but she is possibly less responsible now than she used to be. I now count this decision as one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made in my life. I'm so glad it's behind me.

I basically played what I figured I would play this past weekend, namely Mass Effect 2 and Miles Edgeworth. I just started the third case and am still loving the game.

I'm busy scanning every planet in the galaxy of ME2 and have foundsome neat anomaly sidequests. Next up: fix Jack.

I'm a few hours, tops, away from picking up my copy of FFXIII. All of the cmplaints I've heard are basically the same cmplaints most people who don't like FFs or JRPGs tend to squawk about, which are the exact things I like about them. I just know that I'm incredibly excited for the game in a way I haven't beenexcited for a game in a LOOONG time.

This weekend was, as predicted, rather light on the gaming side. I did find myself firing up a copy of GoW: Chains of Olympus that I had purchased off of the PSN a little while back. I enjoyed some nice couch lounging while destroying the basilisk. Fun game so far. They've really captured the essence of GoW on the small screen.

While I didn't find the time to actually log in at all, I got all my custom dats, registry changes, and plugins required to get FFXI looking nice and pretty on the PC and customized to my liking. Now I just have to actually play it.

I've got FFXIII coming tomorrow and I've cleared off my gaming plate for it. I can't wait.

Apart from gaming I got to go downhill skiing on Friday with my Dad which was a fun surprise.

I also finished up the last book of the Dark Tower series and was throughly disgusted with Stephen King. Books 1-4? Amazing. Some of the most imaginative writing I've ever set my eyes upon. Books 5-7? Horribly lackluster compared to what came before. Book 7 was a lot more action packed than 5 and 6, I'll give it that. It was just such a disappointing ending to a series that had so much promise. Bah.

I played a couple turns in the CoG Civ IV BTS pitboss game.

Picked up Civilization Revolution (PS3) on Saturday. I had played the demo somewhere around release, and wasn't quite sure about it. But I felt like giving it a try, and $25 used isn't bad. (I know, Gamestop prices aren't that great, only $5 off new, but whatever, I felt like buying it.) I'm liking it a lot more than what I got in the demo. Yes, the maps are small, it's a relatively condensed experience, but the core Civ gameplay is still there. It's very much Civ for consoles, and it works.

Only thing I'm wondering about is moving multiple units. Do you have to move each unit separately, or is there a way to move multiple units at once? (Beyond combining three of the same unit into an Army.)

Tried out the Heavy Rain demo, too. Not sure what to think of it just yet. I'm willing to give an interactive story game a go. I do get a bit of a Shenmue feel from it. But will probably wait on it for a while, hopefully after a price drop.

Will be getting Final Fantasy XIII (PS3) from Amazon, so that will likely dominate the coming week, though I'll still get some Forza 3 CoG hot lap times in.

So how many of you are getting the PS3 version of FFXIII and how many are getting the 360 iteration?

The iPhone iteration (if you've got the phone or the pod) works really well as a mobile version. Perfect for world conquest on the go!

Nothing on PC. Motherboard died yesterday. Not sure why, so I won't be PC gaming until at least Wed. But not much to play on that front right now anyway.

360. Still playing the Just Cause Demo at times. Really enjoying the fun.

PS3. Trying out Flower.

Wii-Endless Ocean 2. I am really disappointed that this is STILL held back by some of the same problems the first one had. I am enjoying it but some of the design decisions really blow.

FFXIII - Duh.

Borderlands - I'm still trying to get somewhere in the new expansion, I may have to grind in the Underdrome for a while.

SMT: Devil Survivor - trying to finish this before SMT: Strange Journey hits.
