Problems running HL2/Portal?
I've been trying to play Portal, but every time I start the game I see the Valve logo, and then the screen turns black. Right after that it crashes and Windows tell me that "Half-Life 2.exe is not working". Has anyone else run into this?
I've checked the Portal and Half-Life 2 forums with no results.

If you don't know how: Right click, properties then under local files choose verify integrity of game cache. It might find a corrupt file or two, which it will then re-download. If it does not work, a driver issue would be my next guess.

I tried that, with no luck.
It could very well be a problem with my ATI drivers, which wouldn't surprise me. However, I suspect that there would be a little more about it online if that were the case. I haven't had a problem running any other games so far, so I'm not sure what the deal could be.

The issue has been resolved. I installed a couple of small Windows updates, and I also closed and restarted Steam. One of those worked, and my guess is that it was one of the Windows updates.

Actually, closing and reopening steam probably did it.
