Looks like we'll be getting some free day one DLC for
Battlefield Bad Company 2, a set of multiplayer maps. The maps, however, are only free for those of us who purchase a new copy. Remember how much fun it was to redeem your Cerberus card for Mass Effect 2? This "VIP" code will be quite similar, and is indeed tied to your EA account. Bad news if you were planning to rent this, although at this point it's not clear how these maps will fit into matchmaking.

I would expect at least one more free map pack through this VIP system, but do not doubt that they will release "premium" pay for DLC maps later this year. Expect the VIP code to run for 1200 MSP if you buy used or rent when this game releases on
March 2nd in North America.
