Alan Wake To Be An Xbox 360 Exclusive

Microsoft has pulled the plug on the PC version of Alan Wake because the publisher feels the PC experience doesn't compliment the game the same way the Xbox 360 experience does. A Microsoft spokesperson claims that the PC version was cut in the interest of experiencing Alan Wake the best way possible.

Quote:
Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen. We ultimately realised that the most compelling way to experience "Alan Wake" was on the Xbox 360 platform, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive. Both Microsoft and Remedy have long histories in PC game development. This decision was about matching this specific game to the right platform.

Translation: If we delayed it anymore, it would be called Alan Wake Forever, so we'll skip the PC version.

I use the same monitor for PC games and for the 360. I play PC games with a wired 360 controller. You cut development of the PC version because it would sell way, way less. Those are just numbers. Don't make something up.

What a fucking marketing cop-out. Seriously? They're deciding where I like my intimacy? Have they never heard of internet porn?

Jokes aside, how can they say something like that with a straight face? That spokesperson should be kicked in the junk.

Deserves nothing more than a reaction image. Also: Vaporware.

Hmm... I was going to get it for the 360 anyway, so this changes nothing for me.

I'm kinda curious now if this is the same "logic" that has PR people say "Oh, our new (system, OS, DRM, video software, Credit Card PIN System) is completely un-hackable! It's totally protected!

"Markus admitted that being a PC-only developer can easily lead to laziness, and developing for the 360 has improved the efficiency of Alan Wake tremendously. With that said, Markus expects the visual and gameplay experience to be identical on the Xbox 360 and the PC when Alan Wake ships, hopefully without any in-game load screens. "

lolololololololololololol. Using Alan Wake to demo quad core at IDF has earned a place in geek tech history now. Four years ago Alan Wake needed a quad core processor to be experienced to the fullest. Today it just needs a couch, a couch that cannot exist in the same room as a PC without the universe collapsing.

I don't blame them for just saying no to a PC version since Microsoft learned the 360+PC lesson the hard way the past few years, I just don't see the point in bullshitting when your audience isn't going to buy what you're saying.

As a gamer I have to say this is bull fucking shit. Whoever comes up with this bullshit needs to have their offspring listed off and put to the sword so the idiocy gene can't be spread any farther.

/end of spurt of anger

This blows I was anticipating this for the PC for...ever? I don't own a 360 but I'm certainly not going to buy one just for this game. Besides. The gaming queue is plenty full already, my loss? I'm sure I'll play a clone that copies its 'great formula and design' in some ps3 reproduction that will be done even better. Cheers!

I've never expected that much from Alan Wake, anyway. Even before it was esablished as a late bloomer, shall we say, I didn't see anything that grabbed my interest. Something about a mystery, a spooky town, monsters that are afraid of flashlights... meh. Sounds like a Silent Hill tribute at best.

And yes, let's not waste time pretending that the game is "best on (platform X)." That's never really been true when any PR drone has said it.

Yea survival horror is only good if its at least 10 ft away... what a dick comment

Not surprised; a bit disappointed. So what else is new; microsoft sabotaging the PC (again). Its been taking so friggin long anyway. Unless this title causes my non-existant dog to speak mandarin I won't be buying it.

I just remember those awesome old physics vids where they showed what they could do on the PC that they couldn't on the 360. And it's like nobody realizes you can hook a PC up to a fucking TV, no problem. Just ridiculous.

A quote from Microsoft's gaming division exec back in 2006:

Quote:
When we merged the gaming team from Windows into the Interactive Entertainment Group, we did so to kick off a renaissance in PC gaming, fueled by two factors: the release of Windows Vista and a revitalized commitment to the platform.

At retail, we’re taking PC games out of the shadows and giving them the spotlight they deserve.
Glad to see how that turned out.

People still play games (other than RT4X) on PC?

*which reminds me I need to go get the Sins of the Solar Empire expansions*
