More Mega Man 9 DLC This Week

Another wave of downloadable content is coming this week for Mega Man 9.

Hard Mode – Dubbed Hero Mode in Japan, this mode enables you to play the entire game on an increased difficulty level with alternate enemy distribution and spawning points. Hard Mode is not compatible with Rankings or Challenges Modes.

Expert Mode – Dubbed Super Hero Mode Japan, this mode represents the apex of Mega Man 9 difficulty settings and is not for the novice Mega Man 9 player. This mode triples the level of difficulty from the default Mega Man 9 game. Expert Mode is not compatible with Rankings or Challenges Modes.

Special Time Attack Stage – This DLC gives you an additional stage for Time Attack Mode, complete with an all new level and Robot Master Boss, “Fake Man.”(seen above) Similar in difficulty to the Willy Stages, players will have a fun time tackling this time sensitive competitive stage. Special Time Attack Stage is not compatible with Challenge Mode.

This content is available now via WiiShop, and will be up this Tuesday via XBLA and Thursday via PSN. Each pack will run you 100 NintendoPoints/$1.

For just $1 I will have a hard time not checking out Expert Mode, just out of curiosity.

I couldn't beat the demo either. That made me feel old.

XBLA content always goes up on Wednesdays.

"But Capcom's press release says Tuesday!"

Yeah, they made that mistake with Protoman/Endless Attack as well. They announced it for that Tuesday, and it came that Wednesday

I'm not normally one to cry "this should have been in the game, not DLC", but that's really what I'm feeling about extra difficulty modes.

At least it's cheap, I guess.

I'm not a Mega Man historian. Is Mega Man 9 a totally new game made in the spirit of the NES style/difficulty, or is it a remake of a previously published MM?

And why would I want it? Because of the old-school difficulty, so that I can break my controllers in fits of rage?

It is a brand new game made with the old graphics and music, Mega Man 2 style.

You want it because it is awesome, and playing it serves as proof positive that you are awesome. Beating it is a sign of invincibility.

I'm going to assume you're dying at the elephants. Just bum rush the 3rd elephant and you'll be fine. Stand inside of him and shoot him.

Because everything about the game is awesome would be a better reason.

The game's been out for only a month, and the DLC effectively doubles the price of the original game. Of course, that trend will probably stop soon. All of the DLC was stuff that was artificially held back from the original release, and we've now come to the end of the stuff they had ready before launch.

So I guess you'd rather the game just be $20 with all of the extras, and no option to get it any other way?

No he'd probably rather they just release things like this in the game itself for the same price. Cos, you know they are making a profit off the game as it is, the DLC is just gravy.

I'd be happy if companies would stop artificially creating DLC by withholding elements from the finished version. Barring that I'd like to at least see companies be upfront about the DLC they're selling. I think that publishers could avoid a lot of consumer ire just by changing their marketing message. Tell people upfront that you're selling them the game in pieces, so that people think they're getting a deal by just buying the base game.

Exactly. Artificially creating DLC screws up creating genuine DLC for a premium.

Could be worse. If this was Namco, there would be 20 mega man costumes for a dollar each, and wily's castle wouldn't have come in the game.

Dude Namco is screwing themselves. They could have released several Themed/mod packs for damn near $25 I reckon. All without packaging and marketing should of got both them MS a pretty penny.

For enough money and over the years, SC 4 would have damn near been like Mugen.
