If I'm dead, either I'm rotting in the ground oblivious to all existence, or I'm off in the afterlife somewhere with a lot more important shit to worry about right then.

Whitney Houston did not magically become not a crack addict when she died. What, are we afraid she's going to rise up from the dead if we're less than kind to her person? That we'll get to the afterlife and Whitney won't wanna hang with us in heaven?

And how far does this post-mortem immunity go? Should the Chileans not have continued investigating Pinochet when he died, because a man is dead, and we must show him respect (where respect apparently means "forgetting everything bad about them while we pretend they were a saint")? When OJ dies are we just gonna forget all about the legal problems and post Youtube videos of him badly acting his way through Naked Gun movies?

We're a bunch of guys posting on the internet (and a few girls I suppose), not standing at her bloody funeral. I don't see where this sudden reverence for a person we'd have been making nothing but jokes about 24 hours ago is much beyond superstition.

It's just called being positive. You are a negative person and focus on the negative. I am a positive person, and through respect for another human being, choose to focus on the positive in their life, after their death. I'm in no way worried how Whitney feels right now, she's dead. It's the vibes that you send out, dragging everyone down into negativity when they read or hear it.

Should we not talk about it at all? She was a celebrity. A fairly popular one 20 years ago. It's inevitable that it's going to get brought up. People like to spread news, especially now with the internet and being able to spout off to everyone they know.

A) You guys know that the labels set those prices, right?

B) I don't mind Houston fans leaving some well wishes or posting a link to their favorite song. I also have come out multiple times against people pulling out the most negative aspects of a person so close to their death--it's disrespectful to the people who care about them, and in the case of celebs, the fans who feel whatever connections fans do. There may be plenty of terrible things a person did, and there may be a time to discuss said things, but we can spend a few days choosing to not say anything if we don't have anything nice to say.

I do mind those that think it is inappropriate to discuss anything in the world besides said person's death, and, as I said, judge others for talking about anything else--especially when it's someone who hasn't otherwise been in your mind for a long time. If you haven't cared about that person in years, why is it so important that you flood every outlet you have with emotion about the person? What good is it to scold people who obviously don't show as much concern for the event as you do? Why do you feel the need to dust off albums you haven't listened to once in years, and blare nothing but that artist in public places for weeks? The music isn't going anywhere! That's the joy of art! Give your favorites a listen or two, then move on and enjoy the everlasting art as you normally would.
