Xbox Dashboard Update (Facebook/Twitter/Last.FM)

Fired up my Xbox this morning and got an update. Looks like the update beta is up for folks who got in. Pretty cool, I'm on Last.fm right now listening to the David Bowie channel. Anyone else in?

Holy shit. Yeah! I got it as well.

Last.fm on the box is really cool. The Facebook and Twotter is meh, but the ability to look at my Facebook photos on the console is really nice.

..just because people do it in most Sony update threads... ...I've been doing that on my PSP and PS3 for about 2 years now.

So, is this the beta with Facebook and Twitter? Post impressions if it is. I'm not a fan of either and not going Gold again but would be interested to see what features it adds.

I'm interested in whatever other, little updates they did. I haven't been hearing about any. Aside from the big new features, have you noticed anything else that's changed?

I checked them out. Twitter seems interesting, but not very useful in the long run since there are better interfaces on my laptop or phone. Perhaps this is an API, though, so I could see it being better used if developers can now incorporate this into their games.

Facebook is a little better. I don't think I'd use it to make updates, but as others have mentioned viewing photos on the big screen in a slideshow is very nice. I'm also looking forward to the options to add real life friends to my xbox friends and vice versa, but when I tried that out nobody else I know had linked their accounts.

Ended up getting it Thursday night while playing Borderlands. Shitty thing about it was that it kicked me offline to down load the thing. Don't use twitter so that really doesn't matter to me, but the other things that the update brings are cool.

I forget - has anybody answered the question of whether or not you can stream Last.fm while you're playing games?

It was established pretty early on after this was announced that no, you cannot. And that sucks.

Such a missed opportunity. Maybe they can fix that.

Huh. This makes the Last.fm integration totally worthless to me. My 360 is in the same room with the PC (and, in fact, my PC serves as the stereo receiver for my 360) so I might as well just play my music through the PC if I want to.

Although it does make the Last.fm integration at least somewhat like the PS3's music player. (I kid, I kid).

They haven't fixed a lot of artifacts from the original NXE, so I doubt it'll happen.

One thing I noticed is the update loads pages a lot faster. I can browse through movies, games, etc with a lot less spinning load symbols than before. Last.Fm is awesome btw. Perfect for hanging out and listening to music or a party. Facebook is nice but without a chat pad I can't see really using it. The Zune video marketplace is nice. The 1080p quality isn't equal to Blu-Ray but it's still impressive.

Don't be scared. The new Jasper 360s are quiet and cool (at least my new Elite is). My old 360 got the RROD out of warranty and I repaired in about 1/2 hour. The same goes with the PS3's optical laser. Yes it might get f*cked up under use but it's easy to repair as well.

yep, my ps3's laser died. my xboxs dvd drive died too, but i just took it to china town and got it replaced for like $25 hehe. the ps3 one is gonna cost me $100 to fix tho.. but im giving the money to a local business instead of sony.

my xbox is one of the older ones sadly- but its hanging in there!
