Preorder Army of Two: 40th Day or Wait A Month For Extraction Mode

I think preorder bonuses have gone a bit far.

Quote:
Gamers who pre-order Army of Two: The 40th Day now will have exclusive access to the game's all-new explosive multi-player mode, Extraction, at launch. This mode will be unlocked for all other players one month after the game ships.

Army of Two may have delivered on co-op, but when it came to an online experience many players were left wishing for more. As a result the multiplayer component of Army of Two: The 40th Day has been completely reworked. We want to give fans unparalleled online functionality and a unique experience that can only come with a co-op game.
Good luck with that.

What's wrong with it?

Available for everyone? Check.

Crucial changes to campaign or multiplayer avoided? Check.

More worthwhile than plastic light-up prop guns or crappy hats? Check.

It's a nice incentive to purchase at full price. I don't see the issue here. Unless everyone's afraid of advancing a fully refundable $5 bill that gets taken from the final price at pick-up... "Oh, God! I spent the same amount of money for an enhanced product, but I had to advance 8%!! I got screwed!"

EDIT: There's some confusion whether this is DLC or on-disc content. In my eyes, that makes all the difference. I may retract my comments once that's established.

They announced this quite a while ago. It's incentive for those who want to pre-order, and everyone will have it after a month. Of course, there are far better games coming out early next year, are there really that many people who are going to be bothered by this?

Who cares? The only people who want the game are pre-ordering it anyway. I don't know a single person who played the first one.

I could only see buying this when it's in the bargain bin anyway, which will be quite awhile from now, I'm sure.

Seeing as how I will pick this up for $30 or less, the mode will be available when I buy it. But I only plan to play through the coop campaign. So many other games are much better at multiplayer, I don't know why games like this even have it. Not to say this isn't a dick move. It is. If it really gets to you, wait until it is in the bargain bin. If sales are shit for the first month, they will know why, right? Right?!

Nice point JayK47. Way to encourage people to buy second hand, or out of the discount bin EA!

Also, I'm sure the people who preorder would actually prefer decent server populations of people to play with rather than only those who preorder. By the time anyone else can actually play the game might be dead.

The MP on the first sucked. So I hardly see this as an incentive at all.

The first one was a good evenings worth of fun. We finished it in one sitting though, so unless the second one is significantly longer or harder, I won't be buying it at full price, by which time Extraction mode will be unlocked anyway.

Who the hell pre-orders games like these anyway. I'd rather buy shit when I heard if it's actually any good.

Uh, yeah, the first one wasn't anything special, and I doubt the sequel will be worth playing either.

The first one was a solid shooter if you didn't go into it expecting anything revolutionary. It did co-op better than most shooters though.
Of course, my opinion could be biased by the fact that I got a review copy and didn't actually pay any money for it. It generally makes me more forgiving.

That's been true of most reviewers, in my experience.

Well, I'm a fan. Not of the pre-order shenanigans here, but of Army of Two. I keep seeing all these "I'm too cool for that game anyway" comments and I guess if you're not a fan, that's fine, but I loved Army of Two and will most definitely be buying the sequel on day one.

Also, I played it at PAX this year and it was great. A lot of people stopped by to played it and I think the general response was very positive. I think a lot of people will be surprised when it gets some real positive reviews come January.

I freaking loved Army of Two. It was a really fun co op game, but that's ... about it. It had some sillyness with the blinged out guns, and some oddness with all the things you could do with your partner (Aggro in an FPS, smacking your buddy around randomly.)

Hell, I remember playing the game with Evil Avatar back before the schism and whacking him upside the head several times. Looking back, I could make so many jokes, but nah...

Still, Splitting Multiplayer populations is never a good idea, so I have to say "Wtf EA?"
