Surprise! One free Wii NES game!

I come home from work this morning, and I see my Wii disk tray flashing that familiar blue that means some news from the people at Nintendo had been sent to my Wii by the use of some dark wizardry.

I check to see what it is, and sure enough, it's an update. But wait, what's this? The standard update post has something new at the bottom! Oh... they just dropped the Internet channel to the low low price of free. Wait, there's still more! If you bought the Wii internet channel for 500, you get... A FREE NES GAME! HURRAY!!!

I hurriedly logged into Wii shop, and found that I qualified for the free download. Evidently the previous owners had bought the internet channel. Their loss was my gain.

Anyways, if you didn't already know about this, and bought the internet channel... well what are you waiting for? Go get your free NES game!

Welcome to a few months ago! Still, it's a very cool move by Nintendo.

Definitely fits in the better than nothing category. Like when MS gave away Carcazonne and that scuba diving game.

I didn't even know about this, so I was shocked when I saw I the free NES game news on my TV screen. It was a very cool thing to find out after a long day of work. Made my day.

The difference is Nintendo let's you pick the game. Sure it's an NES game, but some of those games are still awesome. I picked up Super Mario Bros. BTW.

If you downloaded the Wii internet channel and paid for it(500 points) you qualify for the free NES VC game download.

Nintendo should have done much more of this kind of thing. They should have included a download voucher for the original Legend of Zelda with Twilight Princess, and so on...

I heard about this when it was first announced but only got around to turning on the Wii this weekend because my copy of A Boy and His Blob came in. I ended up choosing SMB3. I forget how to get the first warp whistle! I couldn't believe it. I know you get behind the scenery with the white block and have to reach the end but I'd pop back to the foreground. Ah well.

I should pick up SMB as well. I never beat the game back in the day. Damn winged turtles.

The Warp whistle isn't on the first level where you encounter the white block for the first time. It's on level 3 I believe.

That would explain why it didn't work (I didn't play past the first stage). Now that you mention it, I recall that the block was supposed to be floating and there are paratroopas near by.

I should probably try and finish my VC games. I download them out of nostalgia and don't actually play them for more than 10 minutes.

Nope, its in the first mini dungeon and you fly above the wall that lies right before the first door to get to a secret room where the whistle waits patiently in a treasure chest
