Left 4 Dead 2 Demo News

Valve has finally taken all the wraps off of the Left 4 Dead 2 demo. It's a little complicated, so you may want to sit down.

The demo itself will contain a section of the "Parish" (the 5th of 5 campaigns apparently) which can be played by up to 4 players at once (with 2 player split screen on the 360 demo). Enough to give you a sense of the new weapons and infected in the game. But when will you get to play the demo? That's where things get complicated.

If you pre-ordered the game - on either the Xbox 360 or Steam - you'll be able to play the demo starting on October 27.

If you play on the PC, or have a Gold subscription to Xbox Live, you'll get the demo on November 3.

Silver members of XBL will finally get the demo a week later on November 10.

This is of course good news for the L4D2 Official Boycott group, which finally gave up the ghost and disbanded this week.

Left 4 Dead 2 itself will be released on November 17. Steam is currently running a 10% off sale on preorders, as well as offering a deal on 4-packs of the game, so if you and 4 friends buy it, you'll get $16.25 each off of the MSRP.

The group's intent and goal was to have Valve continue to support the original Left 4 Dead title, not to steer people away from its sequel. TFA says that they accomplished their goal so the need for the group's existence is no longer necessary.

With all the hubbub about breaking all sorts of pre-sale records, Valve knows that L4D is their new company cash cow.

Considering Vavle supported L4D and said they would continue to support L4D even though they are releasing L4D2 all along I'm now failing to see the point in the Boycott group 'if that was their goal all along'.

Strikes me as an attempt to bow out gracefully.

They didn't accomplish their goals, Valve just did what they were planning all along.

I don't want to download that demo. If I do I'll want to buy the game even more... and I'm not sure I can afford it. Oh I have the money, it's just going toward... well I'll reveal that little surprise later.

The problem with the boycott was not the L4D1 support, but that they didn't get us HL: Episode 3. Valve could alternate every year with a HL Episode and a L4D version and then everyone could be happy...

They ended their boycott too soon. Shouldn't they have waited longer? It felt so RUSHED, you know? I was promised that they would be supporting their boycott well into the release of the new game, the people behind it said so in interviews. To end it this close to the original boycott date just feels like they were lying to us all along for a quick attention grab.

This is crap, man, i'll never support another one of these boycotts again.

I've still got so much L4D to play, I don't really feel like picking up the sequel for some time. I'll try the demo, maybe that'll sway me, but I imagine most of my time will be taken up by Borderlands and the original L4D.
