The Bearded Ones

I looked around, but couldn't find a thread for this topic.

Basically, this is a celebration of the beard. In our circles, it isn't so much of a stigma, but in the wider world, society tends to favor the smooth-cheeked. So, what I request: post a picture showcasing your facial hair. It can be a full beard, a goattee, a mustache, muttonchops--whatever you have. Extra points to anyone sporting a muttonstache.

Come with me, and rejoice in your monkey heritage.

(Ladies may also join. Extra points to you, as well, if it looks natural.)

I know we had a beard thread. The Beard-Off, I think it was.

That was here, right?

I have to shave my beard for my Halloween costume. It'll be the perfect segway into no shave November. Maybe I'll take daily pics of it growing

I am terrible at growing facial hair, with the exception of sideburns, and really wish I could. I try all the time, but it is always some level of failure. Here is the last attempt I got a photo of.

This one started as a full beard and mustache, but the stache was coming in at nigh invisible levels, and had to go. It was also pretty damn thin between the goatee and sideburns, so that had to go. Soon after this, I realized that the goatee only looked decent in comparison to the mustache, so I shaved that off, and trimmed up the sideburns, ending up back where I started. It's a real goddamn shame.

I'm not much for beardedness. Shave pretty much every day, and as you can see, can grow it much anyway. This is me after not shaving for almost two weeks while in Turkey. My sideburns grow like a normal man, though.

I did a search for it, and I didn't come up with anything. At least, nothing about beards specifically. If anyone finds it, post a link.

And to all those who feel they cannot grow a beard, I offer these words of wisdom: the only way to grow a beard is to grow a beard. If you're patient with it, it can thicken up considerably. Give it at least six weeks. Perhaps nine weeks. After that point, if you're not satisfied, then shave it. Be mindful, age also has an effect. I knew a few guys who wore beards in 8th grade. Most, though, are only able to develop one when they reach their mid- to late-twenties.

I didn't think I could grow a beard. But after allowing about six months for the follicles to get the hang of it (I do keep it trimmed, of course), I can keep a pretty full beard.

I guess that could be it. I generally go about a month before giving up due to how fucking terrible it looks. It also kind of hurts that my beard grows in kind of blond (which is odd, because my hair is a pretty dark brown) adding to the invisibility factor.

Well, shit. I guess today was a bad day to start shaving. Give me 4 days, bitches, and I'll be in.

My main roadblock to joining the fully-bearded elite is a small patch of skin to the left of my goatee. No hair grows there. When I did try growing one, it always looked like I shaved that one quarter-sized area every day. It's weird because the hair isn't sparse or patchy...it's dead. It's completely smooth, forever.

So I stick with my goatee.

Also, I'm blonde but sometimes I get a few red hairs growing in. I mean like NEON red, it's insane.

Keck! You look fierce!

I wish my hair grew in thicker, as when I don't shave I get the hobo look. I usually have to shave every couple weeks for a show/audition/some high-to-do event, so I don't really get to explore beard-dom.

Heh, you're not alone there - I have a quarter-sized patch right on the bottom of my chin (as do my brother and father, so I think it may be hereditary in this case).

Oh, and add to the frivolities, here's some Sophie Madeleine (one half the Rocky & Balls duo, with Hannah Rockliffe):

I'm staying clean-shaven at the request of my friend whose wedding I will be participating in this weekend.

After that, of course, I prepare for my fourth annual No-Shave November.

I took a trip to the North Shore yesterday with some buddies. I snapped a few pictures while I was there, including this shot of me and Lake Superior:

My mustache is a little thin, but I've grown tired of being asked if I'm Amish.

Awesome. I had a feeling I couldn't be the first with the idea. Ah, well. A little renewal every now and then is cool.

Frequent barn raising also tends to throw people off.

Great pictures, everyone. Remember, it doesn't have to be a full beard.

@Voodoo- that is awesome.
