First Dragon Age DLC Will Hit on Launch Day

Click to see the rest of the images

Are you one of those people who just can't wait for some DLC goodness? Then the people behind Dragon Age: Origins have your back. The first two batches of DLC will be available for download the same day the game is released.

The "Warden's Keep" DLC will add a new dungeon/quest, as well as six new abilities and a host of items. It will cost you 560 MSP/$7.

Also available at launch will be the "Stone Prisoner" DLC. This is the DLC pack you get when you enter the code included with new copies of the game. But it will also be available for purchase for 1,200 MSP/$15. This pack gives you the stone golem Shale as a playable character, and access to all of the content that addition entails.

Dragon Age: Origins will be released for the 360 and PC on November 3, and on the PS3 on November 17

Hmmmm, as much as I love extending a game with DLC.... I hate release day DLC as it should just be in the game.

I agree.

At least buying the CE includes the more expensive of the two DLC.

I understand the Stone Prisoner DLC to encourage people to buy new but Warden's Keep should have been delayed a bit for perception reasons. I get that they just kept developing after submitting the gold master and that it represents new content that's not (or shouldn't be, at least) on the disc but the timing doesn't help that image.

I don't buy DLC, so I don't care what they do. I haven't bought the DLC for Fallout 3 and I love the game.

I think most DLC is overpriced, so that might be the reason.

I think just buying ANY new copy gives you the DLC.

And CEs are for chumps.

I'm with the majority here. Shale and the Stone Prisoner stuff that comes with new copies of the game is fine. The pay-only DLC on launch is kind of crass.

I hope the DLC assets are on the disc. I have no problem with being charged more money for more game; if the base game isn't worth $60, no one will buy it. The thing is, if it IS on the disc, that saves me hundreds of megabytes of HDD space.

DLC should be meant to extend a game, not complete it.

But... if the DLC assets are on the disc, then the net result is that they would be charging you more money for The Game.

Not more game.

Just The Game you already bought.

You win.

Remember when the price for DLC was around 400 MSP? Now it's 560. I can buy this game next year and still get the stone prisoner stuff right? It's not a pre-order exclusive?

I bought Operation Anchorage and besides the stealth gear I fucking hated it. Also purchased the Fable II DLC and beat it in way to short a time so... I agree with you for the most part.

I will say if one can't get enough GTAIV the Lost and the Damned was an entire extra game for $20 imo.

As long as the only reason it's not in the game is because it wasn't ready in time then I'm okay with it...but they should have been smart enough to delay the release of the DLC a little bit because most people won't think of that possibility.

An extra dungeon added to a 70+ hour game completes it? JediSanf hit the nail on the head, though. This is stuff that was developed outside of the main game, but perception obviously counts for a lot.

But holy shit, do I have a crap load of stuff to download on launch day! I preordered at GameStop, which gets me codes for the Feral Charm and Memory Ring, plus preorders from everywhere get the Blood Dragon armor (that can be tied into Mass Effect 2). Plus, I got the Collector's Edition, which has it's own download bonuses in the form of Bergen's Honor, Grimoire of the Frozen Wates, and Final Reason (a helmet, book, and magic staff, respectively), then the Stone Prisoner deal. Hard to tell, but there might be another piece of DLC in the CE, but jumping between GameStop and Amazon isn't very clarifying.

I'll not be buying the Warden's Keep deal at first, not till a second playthrough at least.

Not how I see it. I paid for 80+ hours of content, and it's all there and accessible to me. I was never promised that this new content was part of it. If I want to extend the experience, I have that option. Where the zeroes and ones are located totally doesn't matter to me.

Anyway, this debate has happened over and over again. Agree to disagree.

You think Morrowind wasn't designed with expansions in mind?

The Lost and Damned is what DLC should be like. The problem is, they set the bar so high that other DLC looks laughable by comparison. ODST should have been a $20 DL add-on, or nearabouts. Not $60.
