Wii Price Drop Official; New Super Mario Gets Dated

Today at the Tokyo Game Show Nintendo made official what is one of the worst kept secrets in the industry: the Wii is getting a price cut.

Starting this Sunday the price of the console gets cut $50, down to an MSRP of $199.

Nintendo also announced a November 15 release date for the hotly anticipated New Super Mario Bros, the first multiplayer Super Mario game on a console.

I read about this earlier, not really a huge surprise.

I wonder if this will effect the sales... I keep waiting for the Wii to reach saturation point....

The Internets do kind of take the fun out of price drops, no?

Nah, they said it was this year at E3, they just didn't put a date on it. My only concern is that all the impressions that I've read have said that it's just not very fun single player, and I just can't see playing it multi enough to warrant a purchase. That sucks, cause I'd love to see a game in the vein of NSMB for the Wii that could be played SP. I hope those were wrong, but I kinda doubt it.

Just in case people aren't aware: NSMB doesn't support online play, if you want MP it has to be local.

I'll probably be grabbing this and saving it for local MP when I have people over. I'm just too big of a Mario fan to pass it up.

I hope that's wrong, too.

I didn't really love NSMB for the DS. It was okay I thought. It was missing something that made SMB 3 and World so awesome. I really wish they'd go back and do some 2D hand-drawn stuff like those games.

Man, I loved that game. It was easy to just run through, but going back and finding everything was bliss. I could have done without the lame blue turtle shell, but otherwise, it was great.

To be fair, they did about as well at concealing this as the other two consoles.

There is no question that this will increase sales of the console notably.

New Super Mario Bros for my birthday?

I'd rather have Sin & Punishment. I'm not a Mario platformer kinda guy. Put him in a Kart and it is ON!

I am really interesting in NSMB. I can easily see playing that with my wife, and moreso with a group of friends.

You mean since Super Mario World? Or maybe Yoshi's Island, technically.

Anyway, I can't wait. I love Mario, and I'm currently having a blast with Bowser's Inside Story. Fantastic stuff.

Maybe I'll try to get Mario for my parents' Wii so I can always go enjoy multiplayer with somebody! Seriously, they eventually will have to learn that it is more than a Wii Sports machine.
