I think I will pick this up. Most likely trade in my old ass 360, 120GB and 2 controllers and just pay the difference to get shiny new ones. And yeah, that 360 looks awesome.

That's a good deal for anyone interested in MW2 who doesn't already have a 360 or PS3.

You guys are completely missing the other pack-in. Free headset, woo!
Though, seriously, isn't MS making itself look fucking stupid by how much a 120GB HDD is? It's about the same price to buy that and an arcade as it is to buy this special edition. |

Apparently they won't be selling the HDD on it's own... Yet. Boourns. I guess Microsoft DOESN'T want my money after all. If only I could have stuck one of those 500GB HDDs in my 360 instead of my PS3 and MacBook Pro.

If they keep it priced that way, it means it is selling. MS will price the drive at what the market will bear. If the market will bear a huge mark up (which it apparently will) there is absolutely no reason for MS to change their strategy.

I was already to replace my completely full 20GB Zephyr with a fatty Jasper, but I don't really want to commit to that case decoration. A custom color and I would have done it for sure.
Their openly stated strategy of high-margin accessory sales, yeah. I don't like it either, but they've been doing it for four years now and are unlikely to stop. Last edited by xoanon; 09-16-2009 at 09:16 AM. |

I think they could sell a TON more HDDs if the prices were dropped to be more realistic. You sell fewer at a higher price, and make a lot of money, or sell more at a lower price and make a lot of money. I think it's in their best interest to get these in as many peoples' hands as possible. The 20gb HDDs have become nearly useless if you've downloaded a ton of stuff. Many people want to upgrade but are just waiting on Microsoft to stop being so fucking greedy and asinine. |

They'd make money even if they dropped the price 50% or more. The markup on these things is outrageous, like the markup on Monster Cables. If there was an option to buy another company's HDD like there is with the PS3 (thank you Sony!), you'd look like one of the fools that buys Monster Cables if you purchased the Microsoft brand 360 HDD.

Comes with a brand new game and an extra controller. I don't think consumers will be confused.
With a little luck, this will lower the price of the 120gig harddrive. You'd have to be ripping all sorts of stuff to Xbox to need 250gig, though. |

I think they're putting it out there for people who want to buy a lot of the XBOX Originals and whatever they're calling the older 360 games that are up there to download.

UPDATE: GamesIndustry reports that Microsoft will NOT be selling the 250GB hard drive separately.

I get that, but I can't imagine that they wouldn't make up the difference with a GREATLY increased number of them sold.

If someone has already transferred from a 20gb to 120gb hard drive, would they be able to do it again to this larger one?
I remember MS said you could only do the transfer once, but then again they also said to throw out the cable and disc afterwards. |

I'm sure they've done the market research to justify the price. There is very little MS does that doesn't net them their best return. Sure there are mistakes made, but I don't think that is the situation here. They've stood by the high pricing for quite some time.
