Disney Puts Bungie Co-Founder In Charge of Their Game Development Arm
A few years back a picture of a Borg cube with the EA logo on it was all the rage amongst gaming websites. And why not? EA at the time was snatching up independent developers like they were party favors. Fast forward to 2009 and I think we need a 'Shop of Mickey Mouse as a Borg drone. The House of Mouse is expanding their gaming arm once again.
This time Disney has acquired Wideload Games, best known for developing Stubbs The Zombie & Hail to the Chimp. Disney has also made Wideload's chief Alex Seropian - a co-founder of Bungie who worked on the original Halo as well as Myth and Marathon - head of the entertainment giant's game development arm. Wideload Games themselves approached development fairly uniquely. They'd develop the core concepts of a game - art design, genre, story, etc - and farm out the actual grunt work on the game to an outside studio. Seropian will oversee all of Disney's in-house development studios, which includes Warren Spector's Junction Point Studios, Propaganda Games and Black Rock Studios. Source - Games Industry. |
