Disney Acquires Marvel Entertainment

In what has to be viewed as a blockbuster deal entertainment giant Disney has acquired Marvel Entertainment.

The deal is said to be worth about $4 Billion in stock and cash. This means Marvel's entire catalog of intellectual properties is now in the hands of Disney, which also controls the ESPN and ABC families.

What does this mean for gaming? In the short term, not too much. Marvel does have a number of games based on their properties in development, mostly at Activision. In recent years Disney has been beefing up their gaming division, acquiring such developers as Black Rock Studios, Junction Point and Avalanche Studios. In the long term, some of those studios could have the inside track on developing future Marvel games.

This deal could also signal a major change in film strategies for Marvel. They began their own independent film studio several years back, but employ Paramount to distribute those movies. That will likely change as a result of this deal. It's also likely that the comic book rights to Disney characters will end up in Marvel's hands when the various current deals expire.

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

I understand that this probably means nothing for the creative side of Marvel and it was just good business. But they even touch one tortured hair on Daredevil's head...

So, which Marvel property should Pixar make into a movie first?

Disney/Marvel Ultimate Alliance! Coming to a console near you next year!!!!

Disney does have probably one of my favorite game designers in it's fold already. Mr. Warren Spector.

Marvel was a pretty shitty company to begin with, now they're owned by Disney... Good thing I gave up reading comics.

I'm more interested in what this does to the film properties that are farmed out than anything else.

They may have been shitty back when they were driven into bankruptcy by Ron Pereleman, but since they've emerged they've been very well run. The only arm of their business which is weaker now is the trading card market (they own Topps).

Marvel fans can finally know the same pains that DC fans have endured for decades.

Now it's sunk in a bit, a few thoughts.

Will this finally spell the end of Greg Land the biggest art thief in comics? Disney is a hell of a lawsuit target.

Spider-manchild sold his marriage to the devil, wonder how the Disney suits will digest that.

On that note, will Zac Efron eventually replace Tobey Maguire as Spidey?

Also just how interested are Disney in the comic side, as opposed to snatching up the IPs for whatever the hell they do with them.
