[CA]The Witcher: Enhanced Edition $9.89

Anyways, Ebgames / Gamestop is selling the regular edition of The Witcher for $9.89, and the enhanced edition for $49.99. Steam is $39.99 I believe.

The regular edition is DISCONTINUED, which means whats in stock is all they have left, so this is a YMMV since some ebgames may be out of stock. So I suggest you call before you go in to see if they have any in stock.

You can upgrade the regular edition for free at thewitcher.com. All you need to do is download 3 patches which is almost 2 Gigs, but for most people with broadband this is a non issue. After installing the patches, the game will be EXACTLY the same as downloading the Enhanced Edition off of steam.

The only difference between the boxed version, is if you bought the boxed copy, you would get a map, and soundtrack, making of movies, and guide in hard copy... If you download online, it is obviously a digital copy. Otherwise there is NO difference.

There is one caveat however, atari screwed up printing the manuals on every regular edition copy of the game for canada... There is no cd key on the manual, which is required to install the patches.

You can email atari support using this form:
http://www.atari.com/us/support/supp...me=The+Witcher

Select Cd Key from the Support Request Reason drop down.
I emailed them on Saturday, and received the CD key this afternoon, so not even 2 business days.
I didn't even provide proof, so technically you could get a CD key without buying the game.. heh.

Also, on a side note, the directors cut patch has been released, which makes the game UNCENSORED. So if digital boobs are your type of thing... have fun

Patching Process(apply in this order.. Make sure all patches are in the same directory!)

FILEPLANET TWEE Upgrade--- Upgrades to the Enhanced Edition

FILEPLANET: TWEE English Language Pack --- Or another language if you rather have a different language

FILEPLANET: Witcher 1.5 Upgrade--- Removes all DRM

FILEPLANET: Director's Cut Patch ---- Only needed if you want nudity.

Since you are upping to the Enhanced, you will have copy protection installed on your PC with the original install, it will be deactivated by the patching. After you're done, go ahead and remove the TAGES. Like Securom and all those other nasties, they leave you a nice present behind (like a unclean woman.)

Heh, unfortunately, I am not even sure the deal applies to you. Although, I guess there might still be some originals floating around cheaply in the US. The nice discount I think might be from the cd key misprint heh.

I just bought it on Steam...but I think it's still worth the extra $15 I paid to have it updated. Those patches are a bitch to find and install.

I just got back from hitting up (3) Gamestops and none of them had the original version. Only one location had any editions, (1) copy of both of the latest editions.

Woah-is-me.

Awesome. I have had a copy of The Witcher for over a year but my buddy was using it for most of that time due to my creaky ol' computer. I just got it back and decided to try to upgrade to the EE and lo and behold, it was asking for a CD Key that I couldn't find ANYWHERE!

I didn't get a great deal on the game, but this at least helps me upgrade! And my lord, could they have a more convoluted process to downloading and installing the patch? Sheesh.

I don't think you would have had the deal anyway. The problem was that all Canadian manuals included with the original Witcher, did not have cd keys printed on them. Also, this is why sales tanked above the border, to no ones surprise. This is also why it's so cheap. I am guessing it wouldn't be the same in the US.

The patch process isn't too bad. Download 4 executables and run in order. The only real pain is having to email support and request the key. But, probably shocking to our American colonizers in the south, the bloody game is still 49.99 at most retail outlets up here in the great white North. So, the 20 minutes of work to get it working, I at least, found to be quite worthwhile for 40$ saved.

Glad I could help. Not often you see someone so nearby on random internet forums either heh.

Edit: Apologies, woke up late to the multiquote.

They just sent me the CD Key last week (yay). took a little while though, so it's a good thing I wasn't chomping at the bit for it. It's too bad the patch process is so bass-ackwards.
