Walking Dead Heading For AMC

One of the best comics is now headed to the small screen. The Walking Dead gas been optioned bt AMC, and there are some big names behind the production.
Quote:
In its biggest development deal to date, AMC has acquired the rights to Robert Kirkman’s popular comic book “The Walking Dead” for a potential series.

Frank Darabont is on board to write, direct and executive produce the project, with Gale Anne Hurd of Valhalla Pictures and David Alpert of Circle of Confusion also executive producing.
No word on when we'll see the show, but don't expext it until late 2010/early 2011.

Frank Darabont's The Walking Dead...

...for TV. On AMC. I am not a huge fan of the comic, but it is a very good zombie story. Of course, they are not saying if it's a Mini-series or a TV movie, but Darabont has me stoked.

Darabont = Instant Win. The man can do no wrong.

I have the first hardcover volume of Walking Dead and loved it, and should probably pick up the rest, but I am now definitely excited about this possible program.

I really liked his version of The Mist, both in color and the B/W version. I hadn't heard about Walking Dead but I loved the comic series. Any idea when this is supposed to start?

You should've kept my title Doctor. People read it now and "Oh, another Zombie story. GREAT!"

See...I dunno how it'll go on AMC. I expect a lot of the more violent content, as well as the language, will get severely cut and edited to make it 'For TV'...if this were on HBO or Showtime, where they could easily get away with the amount of violence in the series, I'd be fine with it.

I dunno...I remain optimistic because of who's involved, but skeptical. I love the series, and wonder how well it'll be treated on Basic Cable.

Going by Mad Men, AMC can certainly get away with more than network TV, but I am fearful that a lot of "oomph" will be lost.

The intensity of it aside, AMC is doing serious TV, and if anyone can do it right, it's them. They are the new HBO.

I'll give them that much, but Telefrog has a point. They can probably really push the envelope, but I doubt we'll get anything as heavy hitting as the comic week to week.
